Thank you all of you Veterens! I may not support the wars you fight, but I support the fact that you're willing to take a stand for all of America.

Happy Veteran's day. Thank you to those that came before me, that showed me the way, and provided for all of us the way of life and freedoms we now have. Thank you to those that I served with, that stood next to me through many a watch. We did this duty, preserving your freedoms, and trying to provide those same freedoms for others, with no hesitation or thoughts of reward. And lastly, Thank you to those that still stand the watch, carrying on protecting us and our freedoms still, as we wait for them to come home safe and sound. Thank you.

Thanks chief, nicely said.

I disagree with some things said here but I would defend there right to say it.

I assume you mean "here" as in on IHN, and not "here" as in BHC's post?

Today i wear my grandfathers medal. Thank you grandpa and to all vets.
I hope to one day get my grandfathers medal, but it means too much to my grandma to ask for it. I want the medals, and the weapons, even though I'll probably never fire them.

Luckily I had a good today and read all the way through everything else...LOL.

Speaking of medals...we didnt find out until after his passing that my Dad's step-dad was awarded the Bronze Star twice during WWII. All he ever said about it was he spent his time doing his duty over there.

My grandfather loved world war 2. He stated it was the best time of his life getting to travel around Europe. He never saw that much action though. He rode motor bikes and was shot off one. He wore his scar as if it were a tattoo showing it off. My grandfather was one of the lucky ones and he knew it. He never bragged about what he did do during the war because he knew that those who lost their lives never could. I think his medals were a reminder of that to him along with his memories of his service. That man could tell war stories though...it was his favorite thing to do when I ever had a chance to see him.

It took a lot to pry the few medals I have of his off of him. Even harder because the ***** that was his second wife wouldn't let my mother come close to his war items (let alone let us see him much). My mother eventually just stole some items after my grandfather passes away. And gave me the medals because she knew my grandfather would have wanted me to have them. It's actually all I have of my grandfathers. I wear one proudly today for a lot of reasons. That was a tough as nails generation and very unselfish one.

Hell yeah it was. My Grampa didn't see much action either (WWII in North Africa) but he loved when I asked him all about the war when I was little.

I was always his favorite grandchild because I always asked questions about history. While alive, he gave me his ammo belt and bayonet knife, his military hat and some bullets. After he died, my grandma gave me is medal of service from the North African campaign. I always have it displayed.

I never got to ask my grandfathers any questions mainly because they passed before I understood what war was and meant. Every generation of my family has served and I am proud to keep that tradition alive. My dad never liked to talk about his time in Vietnam. He felt so spurned by his homecoming and well the way he was treated by the public after he returned home that he burned his uniform. Anytime someone mentioned Vietnam you could see his memories playing l like movies in his eyes.

His dream was to get down to the Vietnam war memorial before he died so he could visit his friends. He never got that chance to.

I am just honored to carry his last name and still be of service to this country. Here is to everyones grandfathers, uncles, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends who have ever put their country ahead of themselves to serve.

I know what you are talking about, my uncle never would talk about the war ( WWII), he would only say he did what had to be done.

After he passed away we found out he had been award 2silver stars and a bronze star.
