Ordered an iMac with a flash drive

256 gb but I only use about 80 gb currently. Saw some youtube speed test and it's insanely fast

No, my old iMac 7 years old crapped out and I was wanting to upgrade anyway. When I placed the order I noticed that I could get the 256GB flash storage for the same price as the 1 TB mechanical drive. Since I use less than 100GB now it seemed like a good idea to take one item out that could break in the future and upgrade performance

This.... just be careful about how you use it.... SSDs should have your OS and your most important programs.... not really great for pure storage which is why its good to pair them with a large regular drive... my latest laptop has a 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

I cannot speak for an iMac, but there are guides on steps to take with SSDs to prolong their lifetime... stuff to keep the OS or programs from doing unnecessary reads/writes to the drive. You may wanna google and see if there are guides for stuff you can do on the Mac OS to preserve your SSDs lifetime.

:dunno: I'm just saying, because wide-adoption friendly SSD's have been around for 8 years or so. I got my first SSD in 2008, 32gb IIRC just for loading.
