this was in response to mark's stance on the show in the last episode of cbe. on this, i am in TOTAL agreement that the show is horrible but for other reasons.

first of all, i love the exposure of the classics the way fred mentions. i agree that it is great for the younger generations of today. but beyond that, this show is one big pile of BS.

1. the early auditions are all crap. the episodes you see on tv are full of handpicked losers. before these auditioners stand in front of randy and simon and whoever else they might have, they are screened through a pre-audition, where they are lined up not 5 ft from each other, singing in front of someone else. from there you will be picked to sing in front of randy and them.

what this tells me, is that the scrubs that you see on tv, were put there solely to embarrass themselves for the amusement of all of us at home. i know people that didnt make it passed the pre-audition with loads more talent than the losers they put on tv. they do pick some very talented people though, but they are also picking the absolute worst. at this point its not even about talent, its about what will get ratings. i know thats what its all about, but its all at the expense of some of the people with real talent that didnt get picked at the pre-audition because maybe they didnt have the right look (not pretty enough or, sadly, not pathetic enough).

2. just because you win american idol does not mean you are a pop star. ask ruben studdard, katherine mcphee, taylor hicks, etc... their record labels DROPPED them. the people that really became stars were kelly clarkson, carrie underwood, chris daughtry, and for a brief period, clay aiken. seems like the rests were busts.

3. some contestants get to play their instruments on stage. most of the time you cant even hear whatever instrument it is they are playing so its all for effect (aka fake). also, this isnt fair to the ones who arent capable of that. if you can play guitar while you sing, why cant someone else elect to do a dance routine with their act? wouldnt that make it a little more fair? of course, that would mean curtains for the people that can do neither.

4. is it me or did simon play favorites this year. i never watch this show but i did catch that simon hand picked a song for the chicago kid (when i found out he was from chi was the first time i decided to watch the show). the judges ALWAYS ALWAYS gripe about song choice. if the top judge hands you a song that is perfect for you to sing, what about that is fair?

this show is horrible! its manufactured, pasteurized, processed, fake, fake, whatever you want to call it. tell me im not crazy.

I'd agree to a certain point, but almost all pop stars are fake. Wouldn't you rather give the chance to be a pop star for 5 minutes to an unknown, average, every day American...and have the American public determine it? Brittney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Auglieria...all these people aren't fake? Some fat record executive forced these people on the American public.

When you get down to it, American Idol is enjoyable because of the songs. For the most part, the songs performed on the show are pretty good. Talented singers singing good pop or rock songs. I'd rather hear that any day then some some dumb episode of Desperate Housewives. It's enjoyable television for me, although I haven't watched it as much for the past few years. Plus Carrie Underwood is hot.

hell yeah carrie underwood is hot.

but is it really the people choosing who wins when simon plays favorites like that? there are a lot of lemmings out there, and they all seem to love american idol. not saying youre a lemming though.

sometimes the songs they choose are classics. and sometimes they butcher them. in that case its no fun at all.

desperate housewives is a joke, i wouldnt watch that either.

American Idol is still going? I think they cancelled the Australian version. The biggest problem for a show like that is after this many years anyone with even a tiny bit of talent has already auditioned.

I only ever watched the youtube videos of all the horrible ones anyway, the people who are half decent are no fun.

And what do you think Idol is? Some fat record executives forcing people on the American public. You think the voting isn't fixed or atleast severely flawed? This show is all about the record company machine. Who can we find that we can make a quick buck on? What I despise about shows like this is it takes the art out of the art of music. It's all about the image they can sell & never about the music. When I want to hear some good old songs, I'll turn on my ipod so I can hear the original & not some bastardized karaoke version.

And I would love to be under Carrie Underwood. B)

I don't think the voting is fixed. I've watched AI since the start and the best person hasn't always won.

Last year Adam Lambert was WAY better than Kris Allen, and Allen won somehow? Maybe the Lambert *** factor came into play, not that it should have mattered, but I just don't see how Lambert lost to Allen. Allen isn't even on the radar and AI brought back Lambert to be one of the "mentors." He's also far more popular, in the public view etc.

the year Chris Daughty was in I think he lost to Taylor Hicks. Daughty ws third because that one chic was a finalist with Hicks. Hicks' album was a bust and Daughty is the big start from that group.

The year Jennifer Hudson lost she was like 7th. And she has an Oscar.

And last night, Crystal was way better than Lee DeWyze imo.

So is the voting fixed? I honestly don't think so considering that half the years the best people didn't win.

I'll record my best Kansas accent if it'll help settle the matter. Note that my best Kansas accent probably sounds about as authentic as most Australian accents you hear in the movies. ;)

Hmm, I guess the fact that I can't tell Kirk is from Iowa and only played basketball in Kansas pretty much puts to bed any ideas that I might secretly be American.

First of all, the song that Simon handpicked because the topic of the day was judges choice lol.

The point of the show is to give struggling artists a chance. I find it enjoyable. I might even try out this year :D

Idol is a crap show. I don't know why anyone should expect anything different. Seriouly, what do you expect from a singing contest that's judged by the mostly untalented mass'. If this show was about finding true talents, they would make coming to the show with orginal music manditory. But that show would be a lot harder to market.

They're the people who have to buy the CDs, so why wouldn't you want them judging it?

BTW, I'm actually recording 2 songs to celebrate Episode 100 of CBE. One is about Neil Funk, and the other is about Kirk. No lie. Both should revolutionalize the music industry, but I don't want to get you to excited. Target date is one week before July 1st.

Behold the 2 most demeaning songs to a specific person ever made.
