Got into an argument with my Braves friends about Chipper and where he ranks all time for 3B. Where would Cubs/White Sox fans rank him?

Santo had a career 70.9 fWAR which is about par for HOF third basemen. He wasn't even a "bad" HOFer. His admission didn't lower the bar at all.

Well, speaking of something that did not exist when Santo played, were also great third basemen. I believe the best around that time was Brooks Robinson. I dont think anyone can stay off google and name 5 others. So if you are considering who his replacement would have been at that time, I can assume you can get to 70.

I would rank Chipper Jones with Wade Boggs at around 4-5.

As a Braves fan, I would not put him better than 5. Seems legit

If his defense was better, he might have been able to crack top 3 but Chipper was not a defensive strength out there. He wasn't bad, he just wasn't great.

Which is why the hall of fame is a question mark with so many. Yes, switch hitting, solid citizen, career with Atlanta, all make a nice career, but just ok fielders are getting in with ease now.

Let's see
Schmidt, Brett, Beltre, Robinson, Chipper? Boggs?

Ted Williams wasn't a great OF. Neither was Babe Ruth for that matter. You don't get into the HoF for defense unless you're Ozzie Smith.
