Is there a *** Jackie Robinson in baseball’s future? | HardballTalk

Random article of the day but I thought it was a good read, and a reasonable take on why athletes are reluctant to be open about their sexuality.

I have no idea if Piazza was *** or not, but I still would have wanted him on my team. Probably as a first baseman though, he was a terrible catcher (not a *** joke).

Well I assume the point of the article is a player that is openly *** while playing because there certainly have been *** players before. One that has come out is Billy Bean, note the lack of an e at the end of the name, but seriously it will happen at some point. Not sure when, but ultimately if a guy can play at a high level people are willing to put up with just about anything.

That was a good article. I think we are to the point where enough people either don't care or can pretend they don't care long enough for it to be OK for a person to come out while being an active player.

But the bigger deal would be the media distraction as the article says. Teammates, managers, and opposing players would be asked about it constantly. Every time 1 idiot fan yells out a *** slur, it would be a big deal. Unfortunately it's easier not to come out, and that part won't change for a long time.
