Cubs announce ticket pricing for 2012 - chicagotribune.com

On the verge of signing Theo Epstein, the Cubs announced their season ticket prices for the 2012 season.

The good news for Cubs fans is that bleacher seats have been reduced by an average of 10.3 percent for individual games, the Cubs said, and by 14.3 percent for bleacher season ticket holders.

The bad news is the Cubs moved up the renewal date this year to Nov. 16 with a ten percent deposit necessary.

Ticket prices for the “seating bowl” are flat, the Cubs said, and season ticket holders will pay slightly less for their tickets than individual game buyers in all seating areas for the first time since 2007.

Season ticket holders will pay $1-$2 less than individual buyers on seats, depending on where the seat is and what pricing tier it’s in.

Tickets range from as low as $7 for upper deck reserved for the 10 “bronze” games- weekday games in April and later September, to $114 for club box seats at the 13 “marquee” games. There are no new pricing tiers, unlike last year’s addition of the “marquee” tier to take advantage of the much anticipated New York Yankees series, which saw three straight crowds of over 41,000.

Epstein’s soon-to-be former team, Boston, comes to Wrigley Field in June for this year’s biggest ticket. The other marquee games are series against the White Sox and St. Louis, plus the home opener against Washington and individual games against Arizona, Cincinnati and Houston- all Saturday games in the summer. .

There will be 29 marquee and platinum games for the bowl seating area, but the number of marquee or platinum games bleachers have been reduced from 30 to 22. With the inclement weather early in the season, the Cubs had a difficult time selling out the bleachers in 2011, particularly during weekday night games.

The Cubs are asking fans to commit to their 2012 tickets much earlier than usual. As recently as 2007, the renewal date for the 2008 season was Dec. 18, with payment due on Jan. 15. The Cubs said they are moving the date up to Nov. 16 to accommodate season ticket holders who want to change their seats during a new “relocation event” scheduled for Nov. 29-Dec. 4. Ticket holders will be given a chance to come to Wrigley and test out the newly available seats and see if they want to switch.
