Does Ben Roethlisberger have obvious tell for run vs. pass plays?

Ben Roethlisberger may have to make some changes to the way he takes snaps this season, and he can thank the TikTok community if that becomes necessary, Steve DelVecchio of Larry Brown Sports reports.

A TikTok user named Theo Ash shared a video this week in which he illustrates how Roethlisberger might have an obvious tell for when the Steelers are going to run the ball or pass it. The video, which has gone viral, shows several plays where Roethlisberger takes the snap on the shotgun. On all of the run plays, his back heel was almost flat on the ground. When the Steelers passed, Roethlisberger had his back heel slightly elevated.

Ash, who has almost 100,000 followers, said he was watching all the plays he featured for the first time. He accurately predicted the outcome of all of them. You can see the video below:

Looking at some Steelers highlights, and there are some plays where the angle of his heel seems more exaggerated than others. Still, it definitely appears like there is something there.

If Roethlisberger has been accidentally tipping plays before the snap, he should be thrilled that someone discovered it on social media.

After watching the video - yes he does.

A wider stance with his back heel up means it's a pass. He seems to be preparing to back pedal on all pass plays.

Back in high school we noticed that this new team in our conference would walk up to the line if it was a pass, and they would run up to the line if it was a running play. So we knew which it would be every time. We still lost 30-0.

Anyways, Ben probably has to do something different with his feet based on him being 72 years old, and a body that has bones made up of drywall plaster.

Roethlisberger's other tell is if he's in a college town and at a bar, he's going to corner some co-ed in the bathroom.

Slightly related to this, the thing I've always wished for with the knowledge that we'll never get it (unless you count guys like Shanahan, who will tell the truth once they're retired), is the real life player evaluation discussions that go on between the coach and GM. Not coach or GM-speak, but the behind-closed-doors discussions about just how bad (or good) someone is.

You could tell Cutler was about to throw a pick when he was looking at a Packers defender (or DeAngelo Hall).

Actually a lot of QBs are like that. I have seen it in the past. You can tell a lot of the plays in particular formations by how far the foot is back......this tell is not as uncommon as you think. Its also not exactly easy to spot on the defensive side of the ball.

I would think that a team would relay this 'tell' info from the sideline via a hand signal of some type or hat on/ hat off

You assume team leadership is all over this kind of stuff, but that isn't always the case. They may not have even seen it.

I remember Cutler, at times, would stick his right right further back on run plays. I don't think it was always consistently like that, but Odds were a run play would ensue. Not sure the defense could always pick up on it, but it was something I anecdotally watched for.
