Those contracts could be valuable to a team like the Lakers looking for as much expiring money as they can before the 2014 Free Agency market. Bogut, Biedrens, and Jefferson are all on expiring deals totaling almost $35 million dollars between them. If those guys get traded it's because the money is coming off the books after the 13-14 season and that will be the "value" of those guys..which is pretty significant given what next years Free Agent class looks like.
True, but if we're using the Lakers as an example, they already have tons of huge money coming off the books next year, MWP, Kobe, Pau etc. I'm not sure they'd want to add multiple players who won't be able to contribute. Bogut is a different story, but with all his injury concerns, I'd imagine any kind of contender would rather spend similar money on a sure thing. From everything I've read, if Dwight decides to leave, the Lakers are just wanting him to leave and not take anything back in return. They'll still be well over the luxury tax without him, meaning they'll probably just flesh out the roster with minimum guys.
Regardless, the Lakers are fucked this year. With Kobe out until God knows when, and Pau and Nash all a year longer in the tooth, I just don't see this team getting any further then they did last year, even if Dwight decided to stay. If I was them, I'd just let this year ride out and make an epic push in the 2014 offseason. The only current player on the roster who has any financial ties to next year's squad is Steve Nash, at $9.4MM. If that's the case, they can literally build their roster however they want. With Kobe as a free agent, I could totally see LeBron, Wade and Kevin Love all taking hard looks at going out west.
