VAN trades Christian Ehrhoff's negotiating rights to NYI for a 4th round pick.
Isles building a nice team if they can sign Ehrhoff.

Glad to see him leave the conference. Kind of thought he wouldn't be a bad addition, but I didn't think they should spend the money that he was likely to command to get him.

He's actually a more complete defenseman than Bieksa, so it sort of made sense. However, all that trade does is give the Islanders a chance to talk to the guy before 1st July, isn't that right? Otherwise he hits the open market.

He wouldn't be a bad fit (plays both LD and RD), although being a left handed shot, I think all things being equal, I would rather have Wisniewski (he being a right handed shot). Wiz only being something like 26.

Right on. Supposedly, he turned down "Bieska" money from Vancouver....would he sign for 6 in the Isle?

So, he's not signing in the Isle and they're now trying to get their pick back for his rights. Edit: Rumored to have turned down 5.8.

Shiiiit.

What's up with these D-men contracts? Is the league just figuring out how important a "franchise" defensive pairing can be or is the added cap space giving everyone a boner?

Whatever the case- bring it on. Keith and Seabrook are looking like absolute bargains and Meatball's deal suddenly doesn't stink so bad.

While a better chance than ending up on the Islanders -- not sure he might not wait until the first and see if any team with a better shot at it comes up with a better package (one that might include a ring) for him.

Basically I'm taking the post last Bulls' championship blowup arguement. The Bulls then had loads of money to throw around, but weren't able to attract any significant free agents to sign (due to many factors- but one was -little to no chance of winning). Buffalo has a better shot at it than the NYI- but I don't really see them as that strong of a team -sort of a middle of the road one.

No offense to Sabres' fans - but just looking at the comparative personnel arguement.

Well arguably they needed a puck moving defenseman to go with Regehr. It's a decent pick up for them, although I don't see it making much a of difference when it comes to things standings-wise...

Spreading the cap-hit a bit, I suppose the Campbell trade showed pretty much any guy is trade-able if they still can produce, even with that insane contract ... so it isn't all that bad. I might have gone for that, as Ehrhoff is a proven puck moving defenseman, but the question on the Hawks is where is the improvement opportunity greatest - it probably never was on D (as far as offensive-minded D-men go).

2nd Line Centre... building a vet 4th line would be in bonus points land (to use arcade-lingo).
