OT: Karma question

Can someone explain what that means, every poster has it. Some posters have more some have less. Is it like a reward system? Sorry if this has been asked already.

I interpret it as each posters douchebagness meter. Although we dont have to many problem people here (a consistent trend I hope) you'll notice the people who have...'issues' are several points in the negative. Like I said, thats my interpretation.
