They are trying to become the MLS's 20th team as a revival of the New York Cosmos Pele played for in the old North American Soccer League. They are not MLS-operated though, and though the front-runners, have not been accepted yet. So, to try to get off the ground, they have decided to play this exhibition against one of the best soccer teams in the world, Manchester United. They still need a stadium and a team, so they just took players from their U-23 team, players playing in Europe, and retired players for the exhibition.
