Solid. So whats the deal with them? I read on Wiki a while back they've been around for a while but were a lower class team? Did they get promoted to the MLS or something?

OK, here's the deal with them:
MLS has 18 teams divided into 2 conferences currently; the Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City, and Toronto FC in the Eastern Conference; and the CD Chivas USA, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Los Angeles Galaxy, Portland Timbers, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Western Conference.

Below MLS, there is the new North American Soccer League. The Montreal Impact are a team that play in the NASL. With the MLS added an expansion team or two almost every year nowadays, the Impact applied a few years ago to be an expansion team and got accepted (I believe it was on May 7, 2010, and I missed it because I was watching Starlin Castro's MLB debut and going psychotic :)) to be the MLS's 19th team. Actually, the MLS was a 16 team league at the time, but both the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC were added as expansion teams this year. The new Montreal Impact will be a different franchise, at least officially, and they are likely to only retain a few of their better players heading into their inaugural season in the MLS.

So not really promotion, but somewhat.

Of course, adding Montreal to the MLS gives the MLS an uneven number of teams and possibly a need for realignment. It isn't certain if the MLS will stick with the 2-conference alignment, go back to the 3-division structure, or go with a completely new alignment. I'm assuming they just add Montreal to the Eastern Conference, and then either leave it as is or move the Houston Dynamo or Sporting Kansas City to the Western Conference. The Dynamo were in the Western Conference, but adding Portland and Vancouver this year forced them into the Eastern Conference. Kansas City was named the Kansas City Wizards until this season.

That's the over-loaded with added unneeded info explanation of it.

Fucking ugly logo....this 3D bold typeface is disgusting and it is spreading throughout MLS. Compare the Montreal logo with that of the Eastern Conference....then compare both of those to the Sporting KC logo...... nice sash :barf:.....

Hhilarious that the sponsor they have is BMO---considering they are also the TFC sponsor and own the naming rights to BMO field (where TFC plays). but hey, at least they have a sponsor at this point.......

Sponsors are on kits in football only because there are no commercials during games.

Ya, the Fire have the best logo in the MLS methinks... not too much, not too little, just a good design.
