Just got back a little over 3 hours ago from Chicago after going to the Cubs game last night. They didn't get the W, but I still had a hell of a time. If I had to sum it up in one word: Wow.

Arrived in Chicago around 4 CT and made my way to Wrigleyville. Checked out an apartment in the neighborhood before heading to the Cubby Bear for a pre-game meal. Met a couple girls, even got their #s and had the mozzarella sticks and Cubby Burger with cheese. Great food!

Then I proceeded into the Friendly Confines. Took in some BP and met Starlin Castro, Matt Garza and Reed Johnson. Talked with Johnson for a good 15-20 minutes. Have to say he's a classy guy and real down-to-earth. My favorite player on the Cubs.

Ballpark started to get full around game time and the atmosphere was great. Despite being a sub-.500 team, the energy in the park was amazing. Had 2 Old Styles, nachos and some pizza over the course of the game, talked with a couple guys sitting around me about the Cubs and Chicago in general. Couldn't have been a friendlier bunch. Great to see Fergie Jenkins sing the stretch and Castro's homer in the 8th was electric.

Despite the loss, it was a blast. Wrigley is an experience unlike any other. For a baseball purist like me, it's Heaven on Earth. I only wish I'd had more time to stay for a while longer. I'll definitely be back and can't wait until then.

Go :cubs:!

It's always a great time..... but I really wish Cubs fans would stop going to games... Go if you have already bought the tix but don't shell out the money if the owners aren't doing their part.

Anyways, where'd you sit?

Section 26, a few rows up. Great seats and a great view of the field.

My first time ever. Can't wait to go back. :)

It's cliche' to tell you to sit in the bleachers but I'll say it anyway. Its fun.

Or my favorite sections. Upper deck infield box seats are completely underrated. Great vantage point in the 400 levels.

My cousin's got season tickets in the 400s, 434 I think and he loves them. Next time I go, I'll probably sit in the bleachers to check it out. Haha

I'm not as big of a fan of them as I once was but it's still more rowdy. If I'm in the mood to get saucy I'd rather not offend families and kids.

The one time I've been to Wrigley I sat...well stood near the Bleachers. It was 2009, in the first game of the year against the Cardinals. April 17th I believe. It was a beautiful day, but we got there later than we had planned and the Bleachers were packed. He had to stand at the top and could barely see anything. Drank some beers and went across the street to a big bar and watched the last two innings. Actually got to see Soriano's go ahead (or was it a walkoff...hmm) HR. Great energy in Wrigleyville after that. The bar filled up real quick once the game was over.

jk bro...

sounds like a blast...my first cubs game was 7-8 years ago against the marlins and I think it was Angel Echeverria (or whatever the **** his name was) was up and hit as ball to the outfielder who ran right into the brick wall in the outfield and like knocked himself out..lol

it was like a 15-16 inning game too

let me see if i can find a video

Here it is from Wikipedia-

On July 12, 2002, in a game of the Chicago Cubs vs. the Florida Marlins, Angel Echevarria pinch hit for Jeff Fassero in the bottom of the 16th inning with runners on 1st and 2nd in a 4-4 ball game. In the crowd, Johnny "Wisconsin" Thornton was celebrating his 16th birthday and cheering wildly as Echevarria had signed a baseball for Thornton on the last day of the season in Milwaukee the year before. Marlins pitcher Carl Pavano delivered the sixth pitch of the at-bat that Echevarria promptly fouled away. The next moment will forever live in history as Thornton turned to his family attending the game with him and said, "All right, this is the 7th pitch (representing July the 7th month), it is my 16th birthday (representing the current inning), and Angel Echevarria who signed a baseball for me is wearing the number 12 (representing the current date). Echevarria is ending the game right here". Carl Pavano wound up his delivery as Thornton and all who heard Thornton's bold words took a deep breath. Echevarria proceeded to hit a towering liner to the Marlins center fielder Preston Wilson. Wilson stretched back and snatched the ball out of the air... only to drop it as he slammed into ivy stems that cover the hard brick wall of Wrigley. As the ball slowly rolled out of his glove and onto the warning track of America's most historic field, Corey Patterson crossed home plate to end the game.
