Deal works out to just under 4 million per year...

finally, the guy gets the credit he deserves. I am a huge Niemi fan, and all the guineas done in two short seasons in the NHL is pitch shutouts after shutout, win games, and win a Stanley Cup...this summer he didn't get the respect, and signed with San Jose at the end of the summer. nice then, he started off slowly (after playing a ton of hockey last year) but since Right around mid-December he has been the NHL's best goalie, statistically and from a record standpoint.

I am putting together the numbers since then, but they are staggering..

More to come..

Good for him. He's a really good goalie.

San Jose could be dangerous in the playoffs. (how many times has that been said without any results)

He's currently in the 1st year of a 2 year deal, isn't he?

Giving out unnecessary big money extensions during an extreme hot streak seems like a really weird move.

Nonetheless... Niemi is good and 3.8 is not at all unreasonable for a young, proven winner (coughluongocough).

No, he initially signed a one year deal with the Sharks that would have expired at the end of this season.

I imagine SJ wanted to ensure a stable cost for the future.

Considering what he's making now, and what Crawford will be making next year, I'm glad we have Crawford. Plus, Sharks now have 6 mil invested in two goalies. Not the best decision by their GM.
