According to a major league source, the Red Sox have talked with former Expos and Mets GM Omar Minaya about accepting a position in the organization, likely as a special assistant to GM Ben Cherington.

I'm assuming you wanted him as an "assistant" GM, instead of the actual GM?

(I ask because his tenure as actual GM of the Mets has been absolutely pathetic - contract wise)

Assistant GM - Omar Minaya: Minaya was the force behind the Los Mets and was the hand behind brining in good Latin talent such as Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Moises Alou, Pedro Martinez, Fransisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez. Not to mention Minaya has developed a lot of the Mets good, young talent on the Mets roster today such as Jonathon Niese, Mike Pelfrey, Josh Thole, Dan Murphy, Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, Ike Davis, as well as being a scout in central and southern America for the Rangers, Mets etc. Minaya as the assistant GM will help build a a farm that produces talent, which is something the White Sox haven't seen in a long time.
