Jets have lost five straight, and it appears that Evander Kane isn't quite so popular with his teammates. Maybe this means the Hawks have a shot on Friday night against Winnipeg.

Evander Kane failed to show up in time for Winnipeg’s game in Vancouver earlier this week following an incident with Dustin Byfuglien and other teammates, Sportsnet has learned.

It was previously believed the Jets had made Kane a scratch for the game in his hometown. Following the 3-2 overtime loss on Tuesday, Paul Maurice termed it a “coach’s decision.”

However, multiple sources familiar with the situation have since indicated that Kane was not on the team’s bus to Rogers Arena and then missed a pre-game meeting. Repeated attempts to reach him were unsuccessful until approximately an hour before puck drop, when Kane answered his cellphone and said he wouldn’t be playing against the Canucks that night.

Earlier in the day, the 23-year-old winger is said to have had a run-in with teammates.

Kane wore a track suit when the Jets players gathered that morning — a violation of team policy. Following a brief workout and stretch, Byfuglien is said to have thrown those clothes into the shower to send a message to his teammate, according to sources.

Full story is here, if you're interested

Also: black.

I do think there's a race issue when it comes to the way that Evander is perceived by the media and fan bases. However, I don't think that's what is causing these issues in the locker room, especially when you consider Byfuglien.

Seems like every season evander is an issue. His constant injuries or " character issue" rumors..which may be a direct result of his injury frustrations? Who knows.

I am surprised that he has actually stuck it out this long with the jets but i guess his reputation now makes him a difficult trade.

Sounds like a guy whos career is going to be shortened. Too bad because he is a gifted player.

I think if he gets traded he will either A) Learn from his past mistakes or B) Stay a douchebag and bounce from team to team until he's out of the league.

That said, I don't think what Buff did was wrong. He sent Kane a message that if you believe you are above the team, then you are hilariously mistaken. Kane is the one who instead of taking the lesson in stride decided to **** his teammates over and not show up.

Here's a question, and maybe this is another thread topic, but I don't want to be the one to make it.

Is there a race issue in hockey?

Sports are often a reflection of society, so, yes. I believe that there is one.

Actually, I think in the case of hockey I said that wrong. Maybe not a race issue, but ethnicity issue. As in, Canadian or American players looking down on the Ruskies.

There is a race issue, IMO. But the ethnicity thing is also a factor.

I think there's a general consensus that North American players are tough and that Europeans players are soft. That's part of it. And there's definitely still some spite for the Russians held by Canadians. The phrase "enigmatic Russian" is basically the equivalent of people calling NBA players "thugs." Alexander Ovechkin is probably the best goal-scorer of this generation but since he's not Canadian, he doesn't get his fair due, IMO.

Are you familiar with Don Cherry? He's a pompous Canadian asshole who routinely spouts a bunch of obnoxious shit every Saturday, and too many people take his word as the gospel. A lot of it seems to stem from that type of mentality.

I know all about Don Cherry. Doesn't he also think if you're not from Ontario you shouldn't even play???

Between that shit, and some of the things he says about safety and such, he kind of reminds me of the hockey version Ditka.

A pretty good comparison, actually.

He especially hates it when American hockey players go just from the NCAA to the NHL over one of his "Good ole' Canadian boys"
