I know, old news! But looking at the standings a moment ago, there are 16 teams in the East and only 14 in the west while Nashville plays in the west. This drives me insane, but how did the NHL find it logical to tear up the biggest rivalry in sports and did so knowing there would be an imbalance of teams? Was the logic behind sending Nashville west to prevent the Panthers, Hurricanes, Lightning, and Preds from being the four least grossing teams in the same conference? How does nashville out west seem more logical than Detroit? This shit makes me want to tear my hair out of my Body

I just don't see how that's the reason behind it. The league stated that this made traveling easiest on all the teams..... Which isn't absolute. There was a better way to create the realignment, keep CHI and
DET together while making travel just as accommodating as the current travel pattern

There was?

The truth is the NHL is always going to have an issue with this because it's the locations of the NHL is rather eastern-heavy.

Detriot was angry and complaining about the travel to the West vs how close they are to the Eastern teams for years across the league.

I don't get why the proposal that was brought up before the lockout wasn't reconsidered again.. it was to change the teams in divisions not based on east and west... it seemed to make more sense to have them in a north/south or based off regional division zones that wasn't causing the mass issues there are currently.. or dumb ideas like an Atlantic division with only 2 of the teams being in cities on the coast.

Detroit complained but no team was getting screwed more than Winnipeg being in the Eastern Conference after the relocated from Atlanta. That travel schedule was ridiculous.

Because TV networks run professional sports. NBC wants to show Detroit against 4 other original 6 teams instead of whoever else.
