Oakland has come on very strong and currently hold one of the Wild Card spots in the AL. Very surprising, but can they last through September and make the postseason? What do you think? Is "Moneyball" magic going to prevail again for Oakland?

They have the pitching to do it. Just not sure about the offense.

Moneyball is overrated and a huge hype. Sure some teams win the WS like the 2003 marlins on a limited payroll. If beanes idea of success is making the playoffs every so often and getting bounced early on a cheap payroll than so be it. The odds are stacked against him as for winning the WS and their bats are brutal, pitching is ok, colon being gone is bad....and mccarthy can hit the DL at any given time since he is prone to injury.

So could they make the playoffs? sure. i havent looked at the schedules of other teams but baltimore and tampa are more of a threat plus DET

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Toledo Rockets
Beane's usually ahead of the curve though.

So, we look at the A's using the stats we know (basic, and advanced) and think smoke and mirrors.

Maybe they figured something out that hasn't been largely publicized yet? Could be why were stumped they're winning with that team. Similar to people being shocked in 03'.

Just a thought.
