Well... That goes without saying.

It's nothing short of glorious that after a weekend of moronic cunting all over the board about Beasley being equivalently graded to White (as if he had any way of knowing what Pace's grades were), we get confirmation of just how wrong he was.

I am glad that Pace picked White.

White was one of the few players with elite/special athletic ability.

Not even Leonard Williams have elite numbers to add to his production.

Yea, but we all play professional NFL scouts here on Chicitysports, just that some are more adamant about their scouting abilities than others. But in fairness, that goes for NFL scouts as well, as evidenced by all those magnificent drafts by someone named Aerry Jngelo. (Sorry, I just can't say his name anymore)

I would have been okay with Waynes. We still need another corner imo. I wasn't excited about any of the pass rushers in the 1st.

I think best player available is about most value to your team, not even how you would rank Beasely as a player vs Waynes. Waynes has more value to Fanglio and the Bears because Beasely has very little being an undersized outside linebacker. He has no position in our defense. Its an odd situation granted, but I think you just keep taking the next most valuable player to your team as constructed.

It kinda bothered me through the whole draft-process, that everybody mentioned Williams as an "elite athlete". He's simply not. He's a good athlete, and a heck of a player.

Waynes potential is higher. I think Beasley is limited due to his size. Waynes has lockdown corner potential.
Speed and size but his feet aren't that of an all pro island type CB. He should be great in zone and still vg in man.

Every draft "expert" I heard talk about this past draft mentioned only 2 sure fire bets in this past draft. Williams and Cooper. That was it, in their eyes.

Not trying to say their opinions are better than ours, or that yours matters less, I was just adding to the group that considered "everybody" mentioning Williams as an "elite athlete" where the pro's were thinking of him as an Elite Football Player, which at times can be different, I suppose.

My top two ranked players was also Williams and Cooper.

But being top-ranked doesn't necessarily mean that you're an elite athlete, IMO. Williams is a really, really great player, with good, not elite, athletic traits.

Umm... this is the exact opposite of what Best Player Available means. BPA means you take a running back if he's the best on the draft board even if you already have Walter Payton. Of course, draft prospects don't come with perfectly objective scouting grades. Any GM is going to be biased in rating players at positions of need ahead of others.

Except, the poster in question has admitted to not watching any tape on Kevin White. So not having watched any tape himself, he felt confident enough to grade two players the same way. To find this out is especially funny for those that have followed that conversation.

The meltdown here would have been epic if he had picked Waynes over Beasley.

not from me. I never wanted any of these lightweight supposed top OLBs. If they were going to draft a pass rusher early I wanted to trade down and get Eli Harold (who I think will end up being just as good as Beasley and Ray) and another top 50 player.

I'm happy it turned out the way it did.

I thought we'd be left with Beasley, Waynes or Schreff. With Schreff not a sure thing at LT, I didn't see him going before us. Every draft has a guy going early that you don't personally expect. I hoped this draft would be the same. Fortunately, it was. Goldman falling a bit buffered us not getting Williams and White's arrow is only pointing up.

and just because Waynes would have been the pick, it doesn't mean Pace wouldn't have tried to do just that. I would have been shocked in a trade down once White was there for us.

Williams' combine numbers certainly weren't anywhere close to elite.

But I think he has an elite combination of functional strength, agility, and balance. Does that qualify him as an elite athlete? It ends up being a question of semantics.
