Hey All...
Just watched this documentary on NETFLIXS called Pandora's Promise.
It's about Nuclear Energy... thought it would be a right wing type of push but the guys in it are all environmentalists.
They are staunch global warming guys and even talk about the nuke deniers being as bad as the climate deniers.
Although it has really changed my initial thoughts about Nuke Energy I admit I need to learn more.
If this show is right... going to nuclear power on a global scale makes sense and is the only real solution given the massive increase in power the planet is going to need over the next hundred years. France is now 80% nuke and selling power to other countries. They are twice as clean as Germany now and only getting better. The total amount of waste made by France is kept in the floor of one room... and the next generation reactors they are building will burn the old left overs from the last generation... the fourth gens are supposed to burn everything and then just run out. I was also shocked how the dangers have been exaggerated... they show the readings from all over the world and the reading in Russia standing right next to the old plant (which kept operating into the 90s by the way) were safer than the sand in Jamaica.
Really opened my eyes...

Just asking that you give it a watch and share your thoughts... Clean energy and getting off coal and oil I think is something we can all agree on.

Sounds good to me. I don't have Netflix though so I can't watch it.

You can find it on you tube. I should have just loaded that... but the one I saw was in three parts.

I have no problem with nuclear energy however plants should be built away from coastlines and faultlines

Lol @ getting off coal. Clean coal tech exists but Obama prefers to bankrupt the industry that would fuel it to advance natty gas interests in the name of global warming. Too bad fracking is just as horrible for our earth. Burns clean though...

Fact: runoff water from nuclear power plants emits less radiation on average than beer does.

That is a very insignificant fact. You think anyone in Japan is comforted by that?

Never said anything about its significance; simply stated something interesting I saw in a documentary once.

Nothing like citing one of only three major nuclear disasters to get the paranoia flowing. Even including massive stupidity (Three Mile Island and Chernobyl) or excessively poor planning (Fukushima), nuclear power is still the safest/cleanest option available for its price.

No, but I imagine they're upset with how fucking corrupt TEPCO was.

Nuclear Power is safe, and clean and we should have more of it.

Sure nuclear power is clean and safe, unless some tiny thing goes wrong. Then people melt from the inside out. But it's totally fine, at least the mess is easy to clean up

When everything is running perfectly, yes nuclear power is great. My biggest problems are when something goes wrong and the corruption that's infected the nuclear industry. The best example is fukushima, that situation is going to have global consequences very soon.

I guess I have another problem and it's that the decision to focus on uranium instead of thorium wasn't about efficiency or safety, it was about the fact that uranium could be used in weapons for our sociopathic leaders

I think that's more about using old warheads as fuel.
