According to the Daily Herald, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets are believed to have expressed serious interest in Chicago winger Patrick Sharp. The author explains that Sharp would likely bring the highest return of any of the Hawks’ players rumored to be on the trading block, in the form of a high draft pick of top prospect. One rival executive deemed Sharp to be “one of those players every team loves to have” and who has “no flaws in his game”.

The Toronto-Sharp connection has been red hot for over a year now, as the Daily Herald reported last summer that the Hawks and Leafs had already been discussing a potential swap. At the time, ESPN had speculated a return of an affordable defenseman along with a high end prospect. The 28 year old Sharp scored 25 goals and 66 points during the regular season, and stepped it up to the tune of 11 goals and 22 points during the Hawk’s Stanley Cup run.

If we get a good return for him I would not be that upset.

I would really like to keep Sharp. Of all the players that we will probably could/are losing, he's the one I really would like to keep here.

Sharp is one of the longest-tenured Hawks on the team, and I'd hate to see him go. He was the only guy worth watching for a few seasons, back when Havlat spent 90% of the year on IR.

They'd better get some high quality in return, he's a great player to have on and off the ice.

Rather see Versteeg go ...

I would rather see Steeg or Buff go, but if Sharp can net us a young, affordable, playmaker to center the 2nd line, im all for it. Like a prospect type.

I'd hate to see Sharp go, but at this point it almost seems inevitable, his name is popping up in a lot of different rumors. As people have said, I'd much rather see Byfuglien or Versteeg traded, as they seem to be more expendable to me. Either way, with the cap issue, the Hawks are going to have to get rid of some good talent that we will hate to see leave Chicago.

Whether they are going to get rid of Sharpie or not, this is good chatter. The more teams interested in him, the higher his return will be in the event that he does get traded.

There's a bunch of guys on the team that may never have higher value then they do right now. Thank you Stanley.

Bowman is many things but he's not an idiot....heh, at least I dont his Dad would allow him to be one. Sharp's cap hit is 3.9, where can you get a another guy for less than 3.9 who scores huge goals at the most important times, is only 28, is great in the clubhouse, great with the press and a natural leader? The answer....you cant. He's going no where IMOP.

And this is exactly where we're going to see how strong of a GM Bowman is. He must create/exaggerate a hell of a market for these players (even if there isn't one) to get us out of this mess without a massive step backwards.

One could easily argue that the best way to win a championship over the next 3 years is to trade SEVERAL of the players from last year's team.

As far as Scotty goes:
As a coach = something very special.
As a GM = something very far from special.

Montreal was right in not extending Scotty's abilities to personnel decisions.

Versteeg, sopel, Huet need to get traded/sent to rockford (Huet) FIRST before they go after our top players trying to clear space

I wouldn't mind trading or not trading him. He would get us a good return but there's so many other reasons to keep him as well.
