Do you see a lot of this? Everytime we se a man or woman in uni's they get meals bought for them or applauded. I'm sheltered too though probably.
WHILE you are serving, people treat you different. When you are done serving, many people treat you like a leper once they find out, they ask you the same stupid questions(did you kill people, how good are you at killing people, what does it feel like to be a trained killer, kill kill kill! do you regret it?--no offense scoot) and everyone tells you about their friends and family that served(as if that means they can relate). WGAF if everyone in your family served. If you want to get to know someone, throw out the label, get to know them like anyone else. LOL
My first job interview when I got out had this guy who stopped the interview portion, and spent the next 15 minutes talking about his feelings about the war, and making a full presumption that I support the war. He hired me anyways at the ground level and was a decent guy. He wouldn't promote me, his replacement didn't have the same stigma with veterans, hell, he didn't even know or care. I eventually become his boss, funny how life works.
