Extra roster spot and we are less than a month away from the deadline, trade or promotion coming?

I'm hoping it is clearing a spot for Brett Jackson in AAA because otherwise who cares if a pinch runner/defensive replacement got cut from AAA.

I would like to see a young stud come up....Cubs position players are practically all healthy now its just the SP that is banged up....Cubs big streak starts tonight...last nights comeback will be the turning point...just like 2008 i think it was or 2007 when we were shit and Aram hit a game winning HR and we never looked back.

Ya, but Jackson doesn't have to be added to the 40-man either to be promoted... but I get what you mean, this could be to clear a spot for Jackson on the AAA roster. Maybe Szczur to AA, but I'm not sure if he's with Peoria still or if he went to Daytona yet.

The 40 man roster spots are useful to have right now if the Cubs determined that Perez wasn't going to be useful, which if you are a 27 year old and you can't hit in the PCL you aren't likely to be useful. The Cubs have a few guys that might be coming back and needed to add to the 40 man roster in a month or two in Angel Guzman and/or Andrew Cashner. Hopefully it is Jackson to AAA and Szczur to AA and having the extra 40 man roster spot for when it is needed.

Doubt Jackson goes to AAA. Might see a guy like Ridling move to AAA to clear a spot for Bour at AA.

Ridling can and has played some OF and is about the right age.

I heard a while ago that the Cubs wanted to promote him and Vitters to AAA soon.

Where'd you hear/see that? As of not too long ago Jackson and VItters were both slumping a bit. Plus moving those two guys to the PCL, which is more hitter friendly, I don't think really does much for their development because Vitters can't take a walk and Jackson's K rate is still pretty high.

I'd still leane towards Ridling/Bour moving up if any move is made

I don't remember where, but it was before their slumps.

Vitters has been getting a lot of time at 1B. Seems like they have Vitters switching every other day between 1B and 3B as of late. I wouldn't mind seeing Bour up at AA, and pushing Vitters to a corner OF spot to see if he can stick there. It is just becoming pretty clear that Vitters won't be able to stick at 3B.

And Jackson hasn't been slumping the last week plus. He is hitting .378/.477/.676 in his last 10 games. You are right that strikeouts are still a concern with 12 in 37 ABs during that stretch.

Crazy thought, perhaps it is opening a roster spot for Nicholas Struck. The guy is flying through the system at this point starting in high A and now in AAA. He had a decent first start in AAA giving up 2 ERs in 5.1 IP. I don't know why the Cubs would want to rush him apart from how bad the pitching has been, but it seems unlikely that they would want to start the option clock on him early since this is his second season in the system. Just was something that struck me.

Maybe they just released his ass because he sucks.......

Got to love that trade we made. Garza blows, perez was a joke, Fuld is a fan favorite on a winning team and Lee is easily looking like the stud we thought he would be.

um, no he doesnt

he's a good pitcher who helped the rays get to the world series a couple of years

his era is over 4 but his xFIP and FIP are under 3(odd difference but you to have assume by those statistics his actually performance rating is somewhere in the 3s) and he is in the top 5 in K/9

is he an ace....no but he's a good pitcher

and derrek lee a stud?

.229 7 HR 25 RBIs a sub .650 OPS?

his defense cant make up for that...he aint a stud lol

I'm pretty sure he meant SS Hak ju Lee. Who is the guy at the time I was most upset about lsosing.

Tho seriously bob you are upset about not having Sam Fuld. He isn't exactly tearing it up since his hot start. Yes he is fast but we've got our own fast guy that can't hit.

I'd do the Garza trade over again without a 2nd thought.

Sam Fuld may be a fan favorite but he's not that good. Darwin Barney's offense, just for example, is constantly criticized on here and I'm willing to bet it's about the same or better than what Fuld is putting up.

Lee is doing well in Single A ball..wake me up in a couple years if he's any good at a level that matters.

Tom Gorzelanny is a year older, much cheaper, left handed and is putting up better numbers then your beloved Garza. I don't care what he did in the past.... he is putting up shit numbers right now.

I would have kept Fuld, Lee, Archer Guyer and Gorzelanny over getting Garza and some worthless piece of crap we already cut any day.

Yup...Garza doesn't suck as much as his numbers indicate, nor is he as good as his FIP suggests he should be, but he wasn't worth that package in the context of this year's team.

Garza has the Cubs only CG this season. So the 1-0 loss he had against the Sox was Garza's fault?

Loss to Pirates opening Sunday was his fault?

I haven't heard anything about Fuld since his cycle. Where was he going to play in Chicago anyways?

Trading Tom Gorzelanny was a mistake.

And he didn't get another loss yesterday after spotting the Nats an 8 run lead. it goes both ways.

Also, Fuld isn't a great player by any means, but he is better then Campana.
