2012 MLB Attendance - Major League Baseball - ESPN

Looks like the Cubs are averaging about 37K tickets sold per game, which doesn't reflect the no-shows and lost concessions but does suggest that they have a revenue floor that they can fall back on.

Whenever season ticket holders forfeit their seats and scalpers stop buying up the unsold general tickets, they'll probably panic a bit, but the attendance figures suggest that the Cubs are going to be okay during the long-term rebuild.

It is pathetic for an MLB team to had only 16K/game

Cleveland is struggling about as much as Detroit is economically. Still, it's a great surprise to see only 18.4K attendance when the team is just half a game back in their division. Perhaps they are expecting the same collapse as last season?

I think this is all revolving around the team's debt. I'd almost bet that once the debt is paid off, last I saw any kind of time table for that was 2014 or so, then you'll see a lot of this stuff stop. I think it's kind of silly, to be honest... but it's good revenue for the time being.

Are there actual studies or reports on the Cubs' debt burden?

Yeah the field looked like total and complete shit..

Especially with the Boston series being on National TV twice.. It looked like crap and probably played that way too..

The concerts need to stop or do them at a different time of year.

Last I saw was around this time last year when the MLB offices brought up the debt problem with 10 or so different teams. The only team they weren't worried about was the Cubs, and that was because there was some plan in place for the team to have the debts paid off within 3 years... IIRC. It was something that the entities that were owed this debt had signed off on, which was why the MLB wasn't throwing a fit over it.

I can't remember where I saw it... but I'll look and see if I can find it again.

Yeah I saw the same (or similar) thing.

It happens with nearly any ownership change. There's debts and capital being thrown all over the place.
