Is it really necessary to spend $350 to clean the teeth of a cat, or am I being "sold" on this one by my Vet?.

They have to use anesthesia, hence the high cost.

Pet teeth cleaning is just one of those expenses you never think about but is critical. We learned a lesson with our first dog as not doing this led to lots of problems with his health. They get gum infections that can cause them to lose 5-8 teeth at once or other health problems. Since then we had it done periodically with all our dogs

You really need to brush any pets teeth. Their teeth weren't designed to eat the food we feed them. There are sugars in a lot of pet foods that cause tooth decay. I know it sounds insane to try and brush a cats teeth but it's something you have to get them used to as kitties. I'd rather brush a cats teeth than my German Shepherds... Now that's an adventure.

The cat has been on crunchy food for almost a decade, Science Diet.

Had it been eating soft canned food, I would have already paid the Vet...but am assuming the hard food has aided in keeping teeth clean?.

No way I'm trying to brush this cat's teeth...he'll go crazy...it's never been done.

Yeah, truth is, you won't often find animals brushing their teeth so it's not necessary. To be perfectly honest, I think vets are the biggest rip off on the planet. They aim to humanize your pet and make you feel guilty in order for you to pay their way overinflated prices for unnecessary stuff.

Well it's probably not gonna happen starting with an older cat. But if you ever happen to find yourself with another kitten, be sure to give it a try Science diet is a great food but it does have grains, which are sugary and kill teeth.

My sis used to be a vet tech so she's taught me all about dental pet care.
