Hey Pete....

Bet ya they don't.

LOL, Rose of all people suggesting someone will "screw it up".
Well, I guess he should know all about that, shouldn't he?
How's that HOF thing working out for you?

Relevant counter-point: who cares what Pete Rose thinks? I mean he's entitled to his opinion of course but who the **** cares what Rose thinks? Literally useless.

If the Cubs were to lose to a good team like the Nationals or Giants in the playoffs, that would somehow equate to "Screwing it up" or a curse.

It's not that he's wrong here, he very well be right, it's this business of using past failures to predict the future. There is no direct correlation between past Cubs contenders and this one. No players, no coaches and no key FO personnel. In fact if you want to just look at the randomness of numbers the Cubs are way past due to have luck go their way. This team isn't built on luck though. I do agree with him in that the playoffs are a different beast though. The playoffs are about setting your best lineup, having depth for different matchups and being able to win in different ways and still they can be considered very random. Rose like to say things and, again, maybe he's right but he's not offering evidence he's just guessing and relying on old tropes. I'll just kinda place ol' Pete to the side for now and just keep watching the games and what this FO does down the stretch thank you.

I'm with Pete and Ommy here. No chance for the Cubs, they'd be best off throwing in the towel now and preparing for next season imo.

i still need an explanation of what "screwing it up" is.

Every team in baseball will make a front office decision that's a mistake and make plays in game that are mistakes. So is every team besides the teams that wins the World Series "screwing it up"... even though the team that wins the World Series will have made mistakes too?

It sounds like it comes back to the idea of some curse or that bad things will happen to the Chicago Cubs simply because they're the Chicago Cubs, and it takes a really simple mind to actually believe that.

Even the best team only has a 25% chance once it's down to the ALCS/NLCS. It's a Captain Obvious statement that the Cubs will likely screw it up and not win. The ignorance, however, is looking back at other Cubs teams and ownership and using that as the reasoning.

Also, Ichiro's hits in Japan even being acknowledged by MLB is stupid.

We've only touched the tip of that iceberg. Soon there will be talk of goats, cats, curses and poor schlubs in the stands that have to go into hiding because they got excited at a baseball game.

I hope Cubs win it. Then I will go to Vegas and have him sign a ball and write "Sorry Cubs" on it.

I'm guessing Pete is still using law of averages in his favor. There is one way to shut up Pete and all the other doubters and that is to end what is probably the longest streak of futility and embarrassment in sports. A streak that has made the Cubs the butt end of a million jokes for decade after decade. It is time for a new era. Now, if they do pull the choke, expect ridicule to hit an all time high across the nation with lots of - Told ya so and They'll always be the luvable losers, Wait till next century, etc.
