For the other geeks on the board that use Bittorrent for anything and everything....

Anyone else checked out Phantom Peer ?

Granted the service is what they are claiming its a really good deal for 6$ a month.

I read on a website where this guy e-mailed their support and asked what they do when they get DMCA complaints and the answer was essentially "We ignore them... they don't apply to us"...

I can't imagine this kind of service will last for a long time giving out unlimited bandwidth, but right now that's what you get.

Any thoughts, opinions, critiques?

Are you referring to a paper trail in having paid them or are you saying they are lying about not logging anything?

By paying them. When paying a VPN, you have not done anything that can be seen as illegal or unlawful. Analogy: Pay for a motel room by credit card = no issue. Buy a prostitute by credit card = paper trail. Even a papertrail for newsgroup services are more private, because newsgroups are genuinely multi-service.

But they do no logging of your activities on the VPN.... so the only thing anyone could prove is that you paid for the VPN.

They cannot prove you used it nor can they prove what you did through it.

If the VPN provider starts logging your activities then you have a paper trail that could **** you.

VPN sounds illegal? Lol shit all of corporate America is fucked then.

VPN like this is not illegal at all, but people can certainly use them to do illegal stuff and hide their IP while doing it.

Yarrr you can be an internet pirate now!!!

Lol the downfall for them will be not logging shit.... cause they will get some kiddie porn assholes using their service, the government in Canada, France, or The Netherlands where the servers live will come after the Phantom Peer people for the activity and the Phantom Peer people will go "Woah, we don't deal in kiddie porn guys, we just provide VPN service to people" and the government will say "Ok hand over the logs on the users doing this shit" and the Phantom Peer people then go "Ya know I think I have those logs in my car, lemme go grab em real quick, mkay?"

I guess I'm just spoiled, because I use something a bit more anonymous, as far as VPNs are concerned. Yeah, I guess for $6, that's not bad. Just make sure they offer IP of origin switching, just in case you go to a site that blocks certain country's IPs. I pay $36 a year + $2 per added IP options. I specifically have an Australian IP, a US IP, a Brazilian IP, and Norwegian IP. Because it gets me access to stuff that is normally blocked in the US. But it's only 4gb a day(which is honestly, plenty for it's purposes thanks to other privacy methods). I was locked in about 5 years ago to that price, it's $19.99 a month now for new users.

How many different CCS usernames can I get for $40 a year?
