Anyone here use one? I know there are other nerds on this board and was curious if any of you guys have one in your homes, and if so how well it performs and if you had any issues using it. Thinking about taking the plunge as I'm getting real sick of Comcast injecting their bullshit into pages (also want to monitor what some shit like my Vizio TV is up to).

I also have a slightly non-standard use case since I work from home and have to use the corporate VPN to get work done, I was curious if anyone else was in the same boat as well and what their experiences might be.

For the non-nerds out there a Pi-hole is a super high tech device you install in your home and each day at noon sharp it produces a perfectly baked pie for your consumption.

Don't look at me. I use pfblocker on the router/firewall. Never used pi-hole.

Good luck though, sounds like a nice and cheap adp-to-IPT solution.

Also looking at a pi-hole because I threw together a retro-pi a few months ago and I really like those little buggers and want to play around with another one.

Definitely. Heck, even if you don't (and decide you don't want to clog your network through the limits of a RPi's total network speeds), you could use another abp-to-IPT solutions.

https://github.com/openwrt/packages/tree/master/net/adblock/files

That's the main openWRT adblocker. From what I can tell, does the same thing, except on purpose built hardware, so it should have superior performance on a decent openWRT compatible device.

edit*

And just tossed pi-hole on a bridge device(saw that it doesn't require a RPi - sweet). Will compare blocks when I have time. Checking to see if any sites bust my chops for blocking their revenue and give me nag loops and if known(by me) malvertising gets through my phone.

Nope. Trying to turn a raspberry pi into an oscilloscope, though.

Is this basically something that monitors all network usage?

I am interested, because it would be nice to know if anything is coming through the network when I am not actively using any devices on it.

A monitor is something else, although you could install a monitor on a router or really any middle-system like a Pi or old laptop/netbook(configured as a firewall).

This is a timed program that blacklists IPs from services that keep up-to-date lists on advertiser traffic. So basically a network wide adblocker. It's mostly beneficial for IoT devices that have freeware(with ads) apps that you don't trust and of course, mobile browsers that don't have the resources to run a good adblocker.

It blocks those sketchy ads(or whatever you want to configure it to block) so they never load on your phone or computer.

Bitscope?

If so, I had no idea that project is still going on. Used entry level rigols were way better than the one I played with a few years ago, so I didn't really keep up.

Otherwise, which one are you using? Would be nice for those times you want to just plop in a bench scope on burn-in and sambaserve to another device.

Bitscope was likely...but the project is "when I get bored".

I'm probably the only person here that would care, but if you build one, let me know how it goes. I have scopes I like(have to be careful and not say 'nice scopes', because they get up there), but the idea of building something with drop-in upgrades that can be networked is awesome and could wind up killing the sub $500-1000 market, the way gopros killed the sub $500-1000 video camera market.

Will do. Thing is I got 2 lenses and a replacement tripod foot that are higher priorities, so it might be awhile.
