I know that there were several of us from here who participated in the Polar Plunge throughout the state to support Special Olympics last year.

Who is participating this year? Any newbies that are a little off their rocker as well?

Considered it and can't quite make the commitment?

Last year was the first time participating for me but I had supported someone else previously before he died of cancer. He opened my eyes to what the Special Olympics were all about and I am dedicating my participation in his honor once again. It really is a blast and everyone has a great time. Alot of laughs with many great people supporting a wonderful cause. This year I have organized a team and if you are so inclined.... LOL

I refuse to take part for fear of being traded.

How do people not end up with hypothermia?

Yeah I guess it's not a swim; only a plunge.

I think Trev is doing this, too... at least I hope he is because I donated some money to him.

Money I could have used on pornography and yoohoo.

There are others you can donate on behalf as well but then again your buddies from down under

may turn a different shade of color.

As far as the hypothermia goes, it is over so quick that it is pretty hard to reach that stage.

What does get to you is waiting around outside for your turn. The water is typically warmer then

the air outside.

One further note, last year was my first time and it really surprised me how me body reacted to

running in and going completely under. I hardly noticed the cold at all. I think my body's adrenaline

kicked in as soon as I hit the water. Staying in for an extended period would be a completely different

experience.

Don't worry Ymono, I'm still doing it this year.

I know right now, Steve, myself, Becky and possibly Jim (as he says) are signed up and are still collecting donations.

Last year was my first time participating in it as well and I had a great time. Because the water was so rocky and there were chunks of ice floating around, we (Steve and myself) were not able to actually go into lake michigan, but they dug out a huge puddle for us to flop around in.

Maybe next year. I am not quite crazy enough to jump in yet, but I think I'll come stop by this year and check it out to prepare myself for next year.
