Poles quote at 4:50ish about premium positions and not being able to get one later is pretty telling to me
yeah, it is... but also, when you look at guys we have in premium positions, and what could leave us with a "surplus" if we drafted a guy in one of those positions.... we could take either a tackle, edge, CB, WR, or TE.
Hard to narrow it down from there haha.
I'd argue that we wouldn't really have a surplus at edge though. We could certainly use more.
Interesting comment about passing EPA being the most important/influential stat to wins an losses now, more so than turnovers.
First words out of his mouth is why he shouldn't be GM of the Chicago Bears.

I think that's the right way to look at it. You don't really want to find yourself in a position where you're the Chiefs and can't find a LT. I know that's a good place to be in... winning so much you don't have good picks... all, just humor me...Poles quote at 4:50ish about premium positions and not being able to get one later is pretty telling to me
Everything you type is why nobody cares what you thinkFirst words out of his mouth is why he shouldn't be GM of the Chicago Bears.
I think if you follow the money in the NFL the premium positions will be QB, LT, Edge. Bears have the QB on his rookie deal and can add LT and edge in this draft. That gives you three players at premium positions on rookie deals.Edge…. While a premium position, will absolutely be available in round 2 and 3 though. LT and CB are the two positions that came to mind for me. I personally don’t consider TE a premium position but maybe others feel differently
I think it goes beyond overall positional value and also about how your OC envisions his O. BJ does not want his QB taking a sack and will force him into more quick hitters. He also loves a TE that can keep a D off balance/guessing. Cole may be enough of that but I can easily see BJ wanting special there if he doesn't think Cole can be. 2 TE sets can turn into one playing the slot or more beef block to run with a D not being able to key on either. 2nd TE can release as well. It's a real headache for a D is they can run a route tree and also be stout enough to hold up at the line if used in tandem.Edge…. To add to that, BJ is less concerned about INTs than Sacks so this should be very interesting considering what was good and bad last year.

The problem and beauty of Ben Johnson's new key football statistic
Analysis: Ben Johnson has said he no longer considers turnovers the key statistic in football and explained Tuesday what is, but there are problems with this.www.si.com
A lot easier to get a good return on an Int than a punt as the O isnt set up to stop the return and you have 5 slow OL leaving really only 6 tacklers. If it is third and 20+ from your own 35, and your Qb launches a 45 yard bomb and it is picked off, who cares?
Just an arm punt, and has a higher probability of something good happening. I don't see this as an INT/turnover.
that depends on the pass and what target the QB chooses. I am thinking more of a jump ball 50-50 type play. and while what you say is true, to some regards, you could also get a pass interference or make the completion.A lot easier to get a good return on an Int than a punt as the O isnt set up to stop the return and you have 5 slow OL leaving really only 6 tacklers.

I think it was more generalized than that as he used an example of Goff throwing 5 ints and still winning. I don't think any were 3rd or 4th down and at least 2 of them short. That said, I'm a big fan of arm punts and one on ones when you've got guys that can go up and get them.If it is third and 20+ from your own 35, and your Qb launches a 45 yard bomb and it is picked off, who cares?
