"Does it matter?" Seriously?Does it matter? He gets his bell rung and is the type of back with needs to drop his head for extra yards. He's also smaller than I'd prefer for that duty which is what it is. He's not a back with a lot of wiggle. He was almost 220 at the combine but doesn't look it now. Sort of unfair to judge him with last year's line so we'll see but I'd like a strong lead back instead of having to take him out for short yardage like last year.
It's actually illegal for a RB to lead with the crown of his helmet into another player outside the tacklebox (15 yd penalty).
A RB can drop his head, but doesn't have to lead with the crown. A RB can lean forward, lead with their shoulder and still see what's going on and maybe make extra moves. I would assume the RB coach is telling him to adjust.
I agree it's better to have 2 backs that can do it all so the D doesn't know what the RB is gonna do. I think the Bears should have used Roschon more (for everything) when he was a healthy scratch. Swift went down too easy going up the middle.
Roschon's listed as 6' 225 on Bears' site. Now that FBs aren't really a thing, that's not a bad size for short yardage, but not like Bears really had a choice. He does it well. Hopefully the concussions are a thing of the past. We'll see.
