Social Scientists study all kinds of things, even analyzing hand writing to associate personality traits to it. So to for how you face your clothes.

According to sociologist, if you face your shirts to the left you're more likely to be conscientious and intelligent. While those facing their shirts to the right are more likely to be dicks.

Weird.
I don't hang my clothes, and if I did I wouldn't care.

However, if I had to guess why left facers are tagged as they are, I would guess they would put the shirt on the hanger, hold it up to make sure it was hanging correctly, and then hang it on the closet. Being conscientious of course they do it themselves so they know it is correct, and of course will inspect their work.
The post inspection hang would be done with the right hand for most and therefore face left.

Just a guess.

The dicks probably scoop them up after the wife puts them on hangers and carry them up slung over their right forearm and hang them in one clump with the left.

That is my clothing hypothesis.

That's a very good analysis.

Yeah, I think if you're right handed, and you hold up the shirt/suit with your right hand, and you want it facing toward you (facing left), and then you just hang it on the bar.

However I know right handed people who hang it to the right... ?

Maybe I'm just used to it hanging left, but it seems natural to turn right to look at the shirt, pushing clothes to the right.
