I always knew I needed to preheat my grill but recent Google searching indicates you want to let it sit preheating on high for 15 minutes to get it hot enough to properly sear, where I was probably closer to 5-7 minutes.

How do my CCS grillers handle preheating?

I got into a "Oh its just hot dogs, do you really need to preheat the grill?" discussion recently.

Without the grates hot, its like cooking in a cool pan on a stove burner.

I preheat my grill by stuffing it with bacon and onions for 15 minutes and then use a welding torch to heat it to 4000 F.

Briquettes better than propane

I've never timed my preheat, I turn it on and go prep food, come back out and scrap off previous cook, let it heat some more and then i start cooking. It's probably closer to that 15 minutes for me.

I do the same but we really should be cleaning it thoroughly after a cook, somehow. (I don't have a gas grill)

It all depends what I'm grilling. For Steaks, hamburgers I crank it up wide open until it reaches its max temp, then grill without touching the temp. Chicken , sausages, hotdogs , etc I wary the approach and adjust accordingly.

I have a gas and charcoal grill.. I also have a charcoal smoker.. The gas grill gets the most use because it takes the least amount of time. I definitely prefer the tastes from charcoal though.
Is your charcoal smoker like the Masterbuilt where it feeds the charcoal and you have a PID controller?

You know I got the combo so I could test this another day, and cook a burger over the coals.

Just a lot of effort and fuel to cook 2-3 burgers.

I remember the burgers over coals over Summer when I was a kid were pretty good.

Yeah...run a taste test. See if people can tell the difference between propane and briquettes. Throw a party. Have prizes.

As to cleaning the grill, I clean that fucker when its time to cook again like Scoot.

After a brisket I will often need to put them grates in the gas side, crank it up to fo-fiddy and then pull out them smoking hotties and brush em clean while it burns my hand through the glove.

@Scoot26 don't let HHM make you feel bad.

The Men would agree the charcoal is better but takes too long on a regular basis.

The Women would agree the burgers were very good.

Lol my fam is very predictable.

Been awhile since I've done burgers on charcoal grill because I'm generally the only one eating one, and I'm not firing up my charcoal grill just for one burger. I used to do burgers for my parents on Fathers Day, but I've since graduated to steaks. I did buy a small grill top for my charcoal chimney that I'll try some day. Would be perfect for one burger.
