Sony announced that their PSN will be back up 100% on May 30th at the lastest It may come back up earlier though. Users will get one month free of PSN Plus, 1 free year of ID theft protection, as well as other perks.

I don't personally play on the PS3 and I assume many other people might stray away from it now. What you guys think of the perks? Too little or just enough?

I will never understand how people tried arguing PSN over X-Box Live because it's "free". When you pay, it's service or compensation. Paying subscription prices isn't bad anyway. It breaks down to cents a day, and there's cheaper ways of getting X-Box live, like Amazon.

Give me games and hardware as an argument for the PS3, but when online gaming is your biggest reason for playing, I don't see how there's an argument for PSN unless someone is dirt broke. I'm glad that the PS3 customer base is seeing the weakness in that "free" and supposedly "just as good" service. Complete BS that PSN will be down for so long. Good thing I'm more fond of the X-Box.

The only thing I really need the PSN for is to sync my Trophies. I haven't played an online game since LBP2's opening week. I also won't be using the free PS+ because I don't care to play beta's or early demos. My internet speed isn't fast enough to download full games in less than a day, so those "free games" they give away would be useless to me. PSN works perfect for how I use it: download DLC for some games, play COD every now and then, and play the multiplayer to Uncharted and Assassins Creed. I'm more of a single player gamer. I'm not one of those gamers that need online multiplayer to survive. Right now it just feels like I'm playing a PS2 with insanely good graphics. Which is perfectly fine with me.

I'm fine with the perks. I personally never felt nor feel now that Sony owes me anything. I don't pay for the service and the down time hasn't really affected me at all. I'll gladly take the perks and put them to use but I'm fine with Sony and what is going on.

Well right now it's pretty easy to support your statement LOL!!

I never had issues with either up until this recent security breach.

Very easy, but it's a stance I've always taken. PSN is way behind XBL, unless people really value a web browser on a console.

It seems like the average gamer isn't too saddened by the hack, and I've even seen some people say that it's refreshing not playing for some time. But like some of you said, Sony's reputation will probably never fully recover. A lot of people will now realize that the free aspect and the PSN in general, is far worse that Xbox Live than most people thought.

Xbox live isn't that expensive when you pay yearly, and there are ways to get them cheaper, so I don't see why the 'free' aspect would now be the deciding factor when choosing between the PS3 or 360.

I have noticed that none of the PS3-nob-slobbers have commented on this thread.

Not surprised.

And once again, I have no reason to claim surpremacy, I enjoy both systems. And as I have stated before, PC blows both consoles out of the water.

From what I've read, they're talking all of the functionality (PSN store, etc). The ability to at least play games online will come sooner (hopefully).

I've always been a PS guy and preferred it over the Xbox, and still do. None of the stuff that has happened has even made the thought of switching even cross my mind. Having a few weeks of not playing online really isn't a big deal to me, and I usually play Call of Duty 4-5 nights a week online. Time will tell how serious the security breach really was. I'm hearing that Sony has taken this chance to overhaul the PSN and, if so, I really don't have a big problem with the extended downtime. I still have games I can play offline, it's not the end of the world.

I can see how Xbox fans would use the situation to bring out the "see, Live is better" argument. Just like if it was reversed Sony fanboys would do the same. PSN may not be as "good" as Live, but it works great for me, and it's free.

I only have one foundation of interest in the PS3, and that is to see how far the IBM Cell Processor can go. It is a great and VERY young architecture, as is. I do not want to see it fail based on it being somewhat exclusive and tied to the PlayStation 3.

As for Blue-Ray, I wish that would have died already. There were better technologies ready, and Sony used its strong-arm to shove a standard that was out of date upon release to the regular user.

I think this is a point that most people are over looking or just plain missed. I have the feeling that most people think the downtime is to simply clean up the hacking mess. Sony has stated that following the attack they have physically moved the locations of their servers (which they had planned anyway) and are taking this time to really beef up security and make the network more stable. I'm fine with the downtime and don't begrudge Sony.

I have always thought that Sony had the better, more powerful machine with the PS3. It's elegant and doesn't have the huge hard drive that the 360 has. The fact that you can surf the net on the console is a great feature. Both consoles have their pros and cons, but I am interested/glad to see that you're staying faithful.

Despite how bad the situation turned out to be, I think Sony will learn from their mistake. Let's hope I am right.

I also just read that anyone who has a PSN account in the US will get 1 free year of a fraud monitering service. You should be getting emails about it soon.
