That's not any worse than a 3B with a .689 OPS being named the starter on the National League team.

Right Here.
There's always at least one of our guys who gets snubbed every year because they're not wearing jerseys that say "NY" or "Boston" on them.

The AL makes me sick sometimes.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Honestly, as great as Paul's been this year, Gonzalez and Cabrera have been better. It's unfortunate Paul plays first base, because this isn't the first time he's been snubbed.

There are certainly years where this is the case, but really you guys think that Paul Konerko is having a better season than Adrian Gonzalez? And I can make a pretty compelling case that Teixeira and Cabrera are having at least as good of seasons at 1B. How many 1B is the AL suppose to carry?

Quentin isn't have a better season than Konerko but it isn't about who is having the best season on the team. It is about who is the best in comparison to the other guys playing his position. Quentin is 10th in WAR amongst AL OF, 4th in HR amonst AL OF, and 3rd in wOBA. Quentin makes sense as an OF for the AL with the season he has had in comparison to the other OFs in the AL.

Fan voting has to go. I'm sick of watching the Yankees/Red Sox vs. the NL.

I will never support fan voting because it does lead to players getting into the All-Star game based on reputation instead of performance. That said what Yankee or Red Sox didn't really deserve their spot except Jeter. I mean Arod, Alex Gonzalez, and David Ortiz are heads and tails above everyone else in their position. Cano you could certainly make an argument against for a guy like Howie Kendrick and Dustin Pedroia. Jeter is a joke, but I am not sure if you did away with fan voting that you still wouldn't see Jeter getting the nod at SS. Curtis Granderson is arguably having the second best season in the OF in the AL.

So yes teams like Boston and New York will get more representatives than they deserve (though I would say at most it would be 2 and the guy that would replace the NYY would be a BOS player), but I think you would be hard press to say that it was outrageous this year. Nothing nearly as bad as Placido Polanco being named the NL starting 3B.

In the sense that Ramirez is more deserving to go than Jeter is, but he is still probably having the 3rd best season amongst AL SS. Amongst AL SS, he is fourth in homeruns, 5th in average, 4th in OBP, 5th in SLG, and 3rd in WAR. On a roster with 2 SS and 7 OF, Carlos Quentin has a much stronger case as the 7th best OF in the AL than Ramirez does as the 2nd best SS.

it's not a bad stat but it shouldnt be treated as gospel...siting WAR only as support for a player's worth is not a good idea

not to mention WAR is calculated differently depending on which site you're looking at..it does tend to lean heavily on wOBA.....
