So I have come into possession of a laptop that is running Pointsec Security and it has XP on it. I want to upgrade it to Win 7 but have found I can not change the BIOS to boot off of the DVD and the policy's do not allow non administrators to format it. Any ideas?

Can you change your account type to administrator?

Is this corporate or personal?

It is a corporate laptop that was never returned when a friend got laid off

I don't have personal experience with Pointsec, and googling it looks like their site is down, which seems odd.

Remove the cmos battery. Yes, in laptops as well. Then your bios will be reset to defaults.

Nope, the bios module stores the settings for the bios. Otherwise you could just remove the hard drive and where would all your settings go that are agnostic to the OS, like memory speeds, clock speeds, onboard features.
