So I made some resolutions, not so much a New Years traditional type, just life changes in general that I wanted to make.

Since July, I gave up vaping(which was my way of quitting smoking, unfortunately I vaped, albeit it was mostly without nicotine for 4 years after quitting). :smoke:
Since August, I gave up soda-pop completely.
Since September, after a lifetime of biting my fingernails(I only did it once a week, so I guess I wasn't that bad), I finally stopped.
Since October, I gave up coffee completely.
Since December, I gave up sugar(also, as much as possible, no sweets, not even the fake kind which are even worse for sweet addiction).
Since January, I gave up tea. And now I have no major caffeine sources in my diet.

It took a while, but my sweet tooth is pretty much gone. That is the worst one of them all. Worse than nicotine or caffeine. I still have fructose from fruits, but that's about it. After weeks of being cranky, I'm sleeping better than I have for years. I have way more energy. When I wake up, I bounce right out of bed, no problem before my alarm clock goes off.

To anyone trying to quit old habits, hang in there. Share your success and failures. =)

I had no idea what vaping was.

I quit smoking in like 05 I think. Hardest thing I ever did. I just quit cold turkey too.

Sugar and caffeine would be hard for me. I heart coffee.

Congrats man, I'm in the middle of many life changes as well.

I quit smoking 5 years ago, I now drink a few cups of coffee a day compared to a pot(12 cups) or so a day.

I've totally dumped sugar from my diet and you're correct, with all these changes I sleep WAY FUCKING better!!

I've basically given up pop... The only time I have one is if I go out to lunch with a co-worker. Otherwise I don't even bother with it. My roommate has a ton of pop, I'm never even tempted to have some, which is good.

I have also bit my fingernails my entire life. I use to be horrible with it as a kid, now I only do it when I notice the nail getting long and it starts bothering me. I also will bite them if I'm nervous or severing anxiety about something or extremely hungry.

Sugar is something I really have difficult giving up. Chocolate is probably something I'm really addicted to, and it doesn't help at work we have a candy table basically. The basic sugar candies I have lost all taste for, but chocolate is damn hard to give up.

Is giving up tea just because you don't want caffeine in your diet? What about decaf tea?

I was full blown addicted to pain killers twice in my life, both times because of circumstance.... the doc had me on them so long my body grew dependent.

And twice I went off them cold turkey and shook the addiction.... 2nd time was in High School when I was finally getting back on my feet.... I once missed turning in a paper in English class and my teacher was irritated

She said "You have seemed distracted lately, what is your problem?"
I said "I am withdrawing from 18 months of pain killer usage"
She said "We will forget about this paper, try not to do it again"

That being said, honestly that kind of addiction was easier for me to break than caffeine or sugar (Pop especially) or junk foods because of the access level.

It's more of a social issue. My fingernails looked like they were trimmed by clippers, so I know for a fact that people can't tell by looking(at mine). It grinds on your tooth enamel and they are bad to digest if/when swallowed. Plus the whole bacteria transfer thing. But nail biting is an anxiety issue, mine is from having real OCD, not the fake OCD people claim to have just because they have some attention to detail or basic organization skills.

Right now, all tea. Decaffeinated tea/coffee is still something I want to avoid because of what it does to your teeth. If you can list the top worst things for your teeth that are in a normal diet, tea is pretty high up there. All of the Green Tea benefits can be found without tea. But who knows, maybe I'll drink decaf from time to time in the future.

I gave up caffeine for 2 years but have been back on it for a year or so. Never had a sweet tooth although I like dry cider. Haven't had pop in years except on the odd occasion. Need to quit smoking :(

I dunno, I've been drinking green tea for years now and I haven't seen much change in my teeth. And what can the benefits of green tea be found in that are 0 calories?!?

Vitamins, extracts, fruits, vegetables. If it works for you, great. This is something I did for myself. I just became paranoid because my teeth started decaying quicker than ever in the last year, and I didn't know why since I take meticulous care of my teeth. Right now they are actually stable and healing, but super slow, re-mineralization takes a lot of time. As far as benefits, it depends on what your body needs. Calories, IDGAF if something has a few calories. Everything has calories, but regulation doesn't require accurate reporting if the caloric count is low(yes, so that 0 calorie diet coke is actually like 10 calories).

Good job to OP. Never heard green tea is bad for your teeth, it certainly cannot be worse than the chemicals in diet soda. Friend of mine drank A LOT of diet Mt. Dew for years and is now diabetic. Do not trust diet sodas, I would MUCH rather drink soda with natural sugar, though I don't drink much soda at all.

I cannot quite smoking!!! I have been on and off for years, vaping has helped but I haven't been able to stop. I am eating a lot more fresh non processed foods now than I used to . Do not trust engineered food. If it's engineered by man it's bound to be fucked up.

I have no clue what people see in smoking. Wasting your money & burning up your lungs.

Glad I never touched that worthless shit.

I get the social thing, but for me the rest seems pretty bullshit. Maybe its not great for your teeth, but come on.

As far as bacteria, regularly introducing minute amounts of foreign bacteria is a positive thing.

And socially, chewed fingernails look so much better than overgrown man fingernails.

And bad to digest? Not buyin it.

Only reason I'm commenting is cause I bite my fingernails and have never understood how there is a problem with it.

Not that it's something I gave up completely, but I have had less than 12 beers over the coarse of the last year, or so. Maybe closer to six actually.

Didn't really make some pledge to myself, or anyone else...I just kinda stopped drinking.

I have tried to be less asshole-ish on here(aside from my spat with RTB recently)over the past year, because I'm a nice guy in real life and wanted my postings to reflect more of that, instead of people here thinking I'm a fucktarded cockface.

A good bit of banter never hurt anyone, hell, that is how me and you got talking! The good old days.
