Here's a true athlete worthy of a RIP thread.

Interesting guy, his ex was smoking hot. I never would have heard of him without the movie. How many boxers make it to 95? Good for you Jake, RIP.

Raging Bull, a favorite of mine. Had it as my screen name on the old CBMB. RIP, Jake.

You still never got him down, Ray.

RIP Jake!

Vikki would be very worthy of Hot or Not

The movie is the typical struggling boxer, then makes the most of his shot. I enjoy the way the history of the various fights during his career play out and how things were back then even though it has the typical Hollywood effect.

I wouldn't say he was your typical struggling boxer. He's a hall of famer, highly ranked on all time lists. His struggles stemmed from his own demons outside of the ring. He was a heavy drinker with an explosive temper and quite the jealous husband.

It wasn't about making the most of his shot but rather what he had to do to get the shot at a time boxing was largely controlled by the mob. He was told he had to throw a fight in order to get a title shot, something he had refused to do many times before. The fighter he fought in the fixed fight was Billy Fox and he was well beneath Jake, so much so that it became obvious the fight was fixed and LaMotta was suspended before eventually getting the title shot. In his book, Jake wrote, "The first round, a couple of belts to his head, and I see a glassy look coming over his eyes. Jesus Christ, a couple of jabs and he's going to fall down? I began to panic a little. I was supposed to be throwing a fight to this guy, and it looked like I was going to end up holding him on his feet... By [the fourth round], if there was anybody in the Garden who didn't know what was happening, he must have been dead drunk."
