I've noticed a lot of times when I've been on here, that there are a ton of guests viewing threads and a pretty small number of registered members comparatively. On top of that, it seems like some sections (like the Bears one) are pretty inactive. Granted it's the offseason so that might have a lot to do with it. Anyways, here's an idea for you guys (I know this has worked well for some other forum owners I know).

- Create a contest to drive new registrations and engagement
- Terms of the contest would be something like, the first new member who gets to 500 posts gets a Bears / Blackhawks / Bulls / Cubs / Sox jersey of choice (or a hat and a giftcard, or whatever). I would stipulate that the 500 posts should be of substance in general. In other words, not some clown creating 500 posts like "lol", "good point", "thanks" etc.
- Time it with your 1 year anniversary
- Promote on CCS. Seems like there is a fair amount of traffic there. I can also drop a post about it on CBMB if you want.

I really like this forum and the people here so far. Would love to see it take off even more. Food for thought.

I don't even care about the prizing tbh. I was mostly just trying to think of ways to convert all these guests into registered users who post.

I think we need to attract hot high school chicks. Maybe we should start a teen musical thread. Then when they join the thread we trap them in my basement.

If the Bulls win the Finals we could give away a jersey

If we trap Zack's sister: DIBS.

Appreciate the idea man, 80% of those guests are search engines, spiders, etc. They make up a high volume of internet guest traffic. I can post a link on my twitter and within 2 seconds, 60 guest bots from twitter will follow it and be on the site.

The Bears forum is a little dead since it's off-season. We've only been up for 11 1/2 months, the growth is phenomenal for the time it's been up. I'll do something along the lines of what you suggested though as far as a giveaway.

Ahh, that makes sense about the bots / spiders.

Yep. The CBMB is even a little dead too right now. I mean how much can you really talk about the court bullshit and make mock drafts?

Not sure how well that idea would work for you, but the guy I know who did it generated a ton of content that way to get his forum rolling and I think a few thousand registered users out of the gate. He was giving away cash though and a pretty decent amount.

I've been trying to coerce OmeletPants to post here since I joined on CBMB. I think any active guys would follow if he was here.

Apparently people love not having the stupid (CBMB MOD EDIT)ing edits.

I think people are creatures of habit. They get used to going to a site and even if the site has long since sucked balls, they go because that's how they stay in contact with their people (see Facebook). But you're right, the more people we can convince to come over, the more will follow.

He would generate controversy. That's for sure :) There's definitely a handful of people over there I would love to see migrate over. I'm guessing you've probably PMed most of them.

Very true. I knew of other forums for years and just didn't bother because I'd been on the official one forever. The one nice thing about it, is there is a lot of activity. That's about the only good thing I can say about it. Outside of that, the moderation blows and half the people there just like to have dick measuring contests w/ each other.

Dick measuring contests are lame....unless they post pictures :shifty:

I only messaged a couple posters I thought were actually solid posters. I didn't go around messaging 500+ people. Usually it takes somebody who is actually a poster there who people can associate with for them to make a jump.

I always dug your avatar, I might make a similar one here but with green dots.

Rather see 1 quality poster register than 50 jackasses only out for a prize... imo. Bears Forum is rather dead as theres not much to talk about :( The conversation regarding the draft gets repetitive, and until a new deal gets done, we cant even speculate on the Free Agency possibilities... I miss Football :(

Yeah, this lockout is tiresome. I'm glad we have the first-place Bulls.
