that broken bat just had me thinking, if a piece of a bat goes into the stands, do you get to keep it? I know that you dont if the whole bat goes in but what if just the head of the bat does? That would be prolly one of the coolest souvenirs that you could get.

Oh really? I know they sometimes try to get those back because they can still be used. How could would it be to go to a game and come out with a bat that Paulie threw at you? Lol.

Normally what happens:

Full bat in stands an exchange is made at some point for a different player owned bat

Broken bat is replaced with non broken one so no one is injured

Yeah. Just like when you catch a homer that's monumental or the first homer of their career.

You give the ball back to the player and in return the player gives you an autographed ball.

In this case, they take away broken bat and then give game used bat that is signed. Just like Brett said.
