Free-agent forward Rasual Butler signed with the Chicago Bulls on Thursday and will be available to play on Friday against the Orlando Magic.

Butler was bought out by the Los Angeles Clippers late Sunday night and cleared waivers on Wednesday.

The Bulls had considered trading for a shooting guard, but they were unwilling to part with Omer Asik or Taj Gibson, preferring instead to wait to see who was bought out.

The Bulls don't intend for Butler or any new player to break into the starting lineup or even log major minutes, a source told ESPNChicago.com's Nick Friedell.

Butler averaged five points in 18 minutes this season after averaging 11.9 points last season. A 6-foot-7 swingman, Butler, 31, has averaged 8.6 points a game in eight NBA seasons.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Well, we have one thing going for us. Every player that's left a VDN team has played better once walking away from VDN.

Love love love it. He should take over Bogans starting spot and minutes in 5-10 games.

is he really a better shooter? bogans is shooting it at like 37% That's butler's career average. I dont care who starts, as long as korver/brewer/watson ends it.

Not bloody likely. However, it looks like everyone's favorite Jackie Moon-lookalike, Scalabrine will no longer see floor time.

Gonna have to start some RA-SUL BUT-LER! chants now.
