Does it exist, do people actually play and excel at real instruments in this century?.

I would love to see it, b/c the Grammy's didn't impress me.

You mean bands that formed after 2000? Or just releases after 2000?

This last decade was pitiful. Most of the trendy music was really unoriginal hip-hop.

But formed after/released after. Miike Snow

Somewhere around 1995 or so, creativity coupled with real talent fell off the map. Oddly enough, what I used to call speed metal is still being produced...which I never cared for anyways based on taste. Hell anything decent this century would be a pleasant surprise...knock yourself out.:)

My dad said the same thing after 1985.

This is horrible.

What u call horrible is musical genius. I understand folks that have a very narrow definition of music. But then again, I have a bachelors in musicology, so my assessment trumps your opinion. This is just one example of how the use of technology has redefined the possibilities of the future of musical innovation. If you listened to the while thing and have any understanding of canonized musical work, you would hear references and invention that are none short of awesome. This doesn't even qualify as fringe anymore... Time to contemporize, man!

He truly needs more love. Glad to see someone knew who he was. There are a few bands along the lines that are really great. Sometimes it's not so much about the music of the era, but what kind of sub-genre forms that generation's original fingerprint in music. Röyksopp, Lykke Li all come to mind.

I listened to the whole link, the jazz portion was dubbed in. That's part of the problem, I don't see people playing actual instruments...which would be nice.

I'm really getting into St. Vincent these days, because I love art rock and need a break from all the techno pop, if you haven't checked her out, FANTASTIC songwriter, guitarist.

not "dubbed" in at all. there are 100s of samples that compose that part.

Good headphone stuff, but if you forced me to listen to it in the car I'd run us into a concrete wall to make it stop.

lol

this shakes my whole house when I listen to it on my home stereo. It is crazy how you can feel it in your chest. It rocks your face off.

Electronica, trance, synthpop (whatever they're calling it these days)... It's ok, but I really have to be in the mood for it. That was actually ok, but I'm more partial to the crossover music that groups like Daft Punk or Crystal Method put out.

If you liked "hair metal" type of music from the 80's, you might like Taking Dawn. Their first album came out in 2009, I think. Their second one is coming out soon. Here's one of their songs:
