Watching Ch. 9 News last night, it was mentioned one of the gang members had previously been charged with something which I can't remember other than some gun charge, but States Attorney Anita Alvarez wanted a much harsher sentence for him and the judge obviously gave him a lighter sentence.

What I wonder with the crime problems at an all time high here, what is it with these judges that they must be lenient with these thugs?

Wonder if the judge has any regrets?

I'm not familiar with what you're talking about... but prisons in here are packed. So maybe they give guys shorter sentences because they can't keep them there?

Judges in Cook County never have regrets...As long as they contribute to the democrats coffers, they are safe.. 1 exception..I remember some clown beat a Police woman really bad. The judge must have gotten the call and let him off real light...There was such an uproar, he got voted out next election. I remember him saying after the election that he would be flipping burgers for the rest of his life

Growing up in the North/West of the city, I never had any intention on going to the southside. And, when I did, I got out of their as quickly as possible.

I think the dumbest thing I use to do was go to a buddies house after work on fridays around 11 pm. I don't exactly remember where he lived but it was on 31st near little village. And, me and my friends would get out of their at like 3,4 even 5 AM. After, awhile, I stopped haha.

Believe it or not, Pat Sajak was raised up in Little Village...I bet he wouldn't recognize the place now

I know the feeling. I spent the majority of my childhood raised in and around Humboldt Park on North Avenue. I moved out of the area and hadn't visited it for years. When I did go back I was surprised to see how many Condo's they have built and how the demographic changed to more "white people". So much more bars and restaurants.

True. And it does add to the appeal of downtown since the new nice areas of North Avenue stretch further.

Whatever that's not the point of this thread.

How can you not be?

It's those 13 people shot in the Back Of The Yards Neighborhood recently.

Oh, I knew of that shooting. It was even posted here a few days ago. I just didn't know you were talking about that one in the OP. Gang shooting in Chicago is a little vague. I haven't watched the news in a few days, so I was unaware.

There is a really good article in this month's Wired magazine highlighting the role social media has been playing in gang violence recently. The reporter interviewed several Chicago gang members and also the Chicago PD gang unit on the matter. Basically, since gangs have become so loosely affiliated - apparently upwards of 850 small cliques that claim ties to the larger gangs that we've all known of for years - there is no sort of leadership to quash the stupidity of individuals for the best interest of the whole. So these kids end up insulting some other kid on twitter, facebook, or through a youtube video, and end up retaliating violently in real life. A prominent example of this would be the Chief Keef vs. JoJo incident in which JoJo was murdered. (Why can't these kids think up big boy names for themselves anyway? It's no wonder no one respects you when you call yourself JoJo) So, apparently, many of the "gangland" murders aren't even about anything that would be useful or profitable (like control over drugs or territory), but rather just a bunch of kids getting all butthurt over getting called names online. It's a good thing we're more reasonable than that...otherwise CCS would become a killing-field.

That's mind-boggling that some of these kids are literally out to kill each other over dumb shit said on twitter.

Isn't it though? Like I said, if we acted like that, CCS posters would be on world-wide manhunts for one another. I'd encourage you guys to go pick up that issue just for that article. I like the magazine in general, but that just blew my mind that kids are getting this petty. I can, at least, understand gang related violence when there is some sort of benefit, but the senseless "keeping up my cred" or "looking tough," or what-not, is just about as asinine as something can get.
