So- any fans out there?
Just re watched this last season. Kind of underwhelmed for the most part.
Dont get me wrong, the show is great, but this past season seemed slapped together. Funny at times but minimal overall arc.

I was kind of hoping evil morty would show back up, and they would get in to that... my assumption is that evil morty is the morty that rick originally was with, was with from birth till now, and the morty we know and the dimension we know is not where the rick we know came from.

I think we find out that in one of the infinite realities, evil morty was born with rick level intelligence.

Anyway- thoughts on the past season? The show?

I am a big fan of Dan Harmon's NBC sitcom Community, so when I heard he was in on the creation of a new show for [adult swim] seven years ago called Rick & Morty, I was all over it from the debut of the pilot episode. I love it! Great combination of smart, funny and action packed. One of my favorite games to play with this show is to try to keep track how far removed you are from the original family in the pilot episode.

(i.e. abandoning "Cronenberg" world or Rick Sanchez transferring his mind from body to body while leaving nothing but a line of corpses behind him)

I thought Season 4 did start a little slow, but eventually hit a nice flow. The Vat of Acid Episode and Morty Gets a Dragon were especially spectacular. There is also a great theme to Season 4 that I like to call the "Rick is a Piece of Shit" arc. From the opening scene of the first episode where Rick tries to force Morty off on another adventure, but Beth stops him and actually makes Rick ask Morty for permission to go with him...there is this great theme of the entire Smith family shitting all over Rick for a change. It really climaxes in the Season Finale, but I don't want to go to far into it without feeling the need to break out the spoiler tags. I will just say keep the idea of that arc in mind when watching the latest season and maybe you will enjoy it a little more.

His statement to morty at the end of last season plays in to it I think...
About being the lowest ranked member of the family.
That carried over.

Apparently Harmon wants to do a finite run and end before it gets stale- I wonder how long they will go before hitting the end.

On the keeping track of how far removed they are, I always wondered how accurate c-137 is.
Apparently it is the origin reality and not the planet. After all, he croenenberged c-137 (if that is his actual earth which I suspect not).

Also- on the citadel...they have a, b, and c designations for the same reality. I wonder how that came about.

There are some absolutely spectacular Easter eggs in the show....I mean besides a hidden penis or vagina in every episode.

So for the piece of shit rick theory- imo, wiping out the federation left him with little purpose.
It reminds me of the closing credits of Conan the destroyer where conan is sitting on a throne, achieving his ultimate goal, and being bored out of his mind and miserable.

The network locked him and Justin Roiland into a 70 episode contract after the conclusion of season three, so if they fulfill the contract...six more seasons. I wish him luck with the "before it gets stale" mission because the show may be pushing two decades on the air by then.

The POS theory is more about the rest of the family than Rick himself. In Season One, Beth is just thrilled to finally have her father back, Morty is the classic sidekick archetype, Summer is jealous she is being left out and Jerry is threatened by a strong patriarch. In Season Four, the Smith family has moved beyond walking on eggshells around Rick and just straight up puts him in his place. Morty is more demanding of his needs. Summer is a straight up badass now. Jerry gets the entire family to go on a "no sci-fi bullshit" trip...including Rick. And Beth not only finally stops desperately seeking Rick's approval, but actually gets that script to flip.

Basically the Smith family realizes Rick is a piece of shit and is no longer going to cater to his every whim.

BTW, have you checked out Justin Roiland's new show on Hulu Solar Opposites???

Really funny as well. Not the same show, but for sure the same humor. Only a little more hardcore because it does not have to air on basic cable.

I have not- I plan on checking it out.
I had no idea they signed for 70 more.... You think Harmon and roiland will make it that long?

That makes me happy though- it seems every cartoon show i enjoy really finds its legs after 3 or 4 seasons.
Family guy, american dad, futurama... good to start with but great when the characters hit a groove.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
My only gripe with season 4 is that it has come out in fits and starts...Rick has definitely lost the element of anything he does being shocking to the family at this point....FFS, they have their mom and a clone mom and don't know who is who, and they embraced both moms while essentially telling Rick to pound sand...

Not only does the family do so, the federation and the citadel both marginalized him.
Tammi didnt give a shit about rick.

Rick, BP and squanchy committed "numerous atrocities " to take out the federation, yet now doesn't give a shit about it.

He doesn't seem to give a shit about the citadel being rebuilt.

The only thing he really shows attachment to is his toilet, randos who shit in it, and when he let's it slip, his family.
