HOUSTON -- Chairman of the board Tom Ricketts will make an announcement on the Chicago Cubs' future and share his view of the state of the team within the next 10 days, according to a source close to Ricketts.

Ricketts was at the team's short-season Boise franchise (Class A) on Monday and will attend major league ownership meetings the rest of the week.

While Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted on Monday that general manager Jim Hendry will return next year unless Ricketts changes his mind, Ricketts' personal public relations director, Dennis Cullerton, said that any reporting about the status of the Cubs front office right now is premature in nature.

Hendry has one year remaining on his contract, which was extended for four years after the 2008 season. Cullerton did confirm that Ricketts will be addressing some major issues of interest to Cubs fans very soon.

Ricketts has spent a lot of time touring the minor league affiliates in the last month. He recently traveled with vice president of player personnel Oneri Fleita through the minor leagues including Class A Peoria, Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. Ricketts did the same thing in the summer of 2010.

Guessing this means Jimbo is staying. I suppose it's not the worst thing ever. Will be interesting to see what Ricketts' announces.

I hope to god he says that Jim Hendry won't be returning, but I won't hold my breath. Ricketts doesn't know shit about baseball

It's probably just a pipe dream, but I really hope that he says that the Cubs are going in a different direction at GM, fires Crane Kenny as well, hires Billy Beane as GM and lets him find a president who actually knows something about baseball, unlike Crane Kenny

If Hendry does return, it's not that big of a deal, as long as we get a baseball-head as the Team Prez. If not, then well... we better make a huge splash in FA.

I think Hendry cares about winning, he's just taken some bad approaches to it. I'm interested to find out if Ricketts cares about winning.

My predictions for this address:
*There will be no mention of the front office beyond that he has confidence in them now and that he will analyze the situation at the end of the year.

*Nothing of importance to the on the field product of the team will be actually addressed.

*Whatever Ricketts says will be interpreted as he is dumb and only cares about money by the majority of people here.

*The draft will be highlighted as a major positive in the address.

*Wrigley will be addressed in this speech, and whatever the Cubs new approach to trying to get public funds for it will be unveiled.

Guilty as charged :)

I do like how he spent some good money on the draft. I do him  for that even though you know how i feel about prospects.

My list is probably going to be wrong because no one seems to have any idea what Ricketts is actually going to talk about besides the grandiose statements about the direction of the franchise and things of major interest to Cubs fan will be discussed. All of those things can be interpreted in a lot of ways.

Yeah, because Hendry can't put a winning team on the field

Hendry really isn't *that* bad. While I agree that he should probably go, let's not discount the fact that he has put winners on the field multiple times

Ricketts will just run his mouth saying all the things that need to be said about the team ,stadium and personnel...yada yada yada

Then he will announce another statue will be placed outside of wrigley, and it will be of himself because he thinks he is just that damn important

I would give my 1st born kid to have Billiy Beane has GM for the next 20+ years. Think about what he could do with a pay role like ours.

it will be politically correct, he will say all the right things to make the fans happy. This will be either a PR nightmare or Dream. Nothing he says about the front office or the team being fielded next year means anything. He is a businessmen, he will not use the term rebuilding, he will not say JH is gone unless JH is fired prior to his address. Most of the talk will be about the previous draft and the youth, again without using the word rebuilding. If he does everything right, he will lead the fans to believe that they will spend money and not rebuild.

I can address the state of the team in one word: pitiful

Now there's no need for a press conference to hear this jagaloon spew more false hope & empty promises. Obama is visiting Illinois, we'll get enough of that this week.
