Yeah right, I actually had many tell me that Maddon would not make that much difference. :lol: I also wonder what 'ol Joe Girardi is thinking about now watching the Cubs in the playoffs after turning down the Cubs job?

It was always the right move. Rick Renteria got caught in circumstances beyond his control. You have a chance to get Joe Maddon, you go get Joe Maddon. We wouldn't be here without him. That said I really think Renteria deserves another job. I think he has the makings of a good manager.

To get one of the great managers in baseball, you got to go hard. Theo did it, and it paid dividends. Why take a chance on renteria when maddon is a proven commodity? Plus would renteria bat the pitcher 8th? Also taking out pitchers at the right time, maddon always knew. The Cubs got lucky that he was available.

They did get lucky but you know what luck is, right? Luck = opportunity + preparation.

I think that's exactly it. They wanted an experienced manager with the ability to work with young talent. They targeted Girardi first and when that didn't work they looked for a guy they could develop into that type of a manager and hired Renteria. They had gone the other way with Sveum conducting an exhausting search to get a guy aligned with their baseball principles who they thought they could develop and discovered the human element wasn't there. Renteria had a lot to learn but was a better mix of those qualities. Like I said I still to this day think there's the makings of a really good manager there but obviously inexperienced. When Maddon became available they jumped at the opportunity and did the only thing that made sense. People weeped over Renteria getting an unfair shake but when there was a much better option available that's not the time for feelings over facts. He'll get a shot and will likely be good sooner rather than later. Joe Maddon is one of the best I've ever seen period.

Renteria = Doug Collins

Maddon = Phil Jackson

:clap:

The only attacks were on how poor management handled it.

Thats a huge insult to doug collins

Why? Neither one of them ever won a damn thing. Best thing Collins ever did was become a broadcaster....worst thing he ever did was coach.
