While right now I can't fathom this, from my perspective a programmed machine can only do what it is programmed for. AI can only become AI when it is able to modify its own programming/behavior, with no constraints.



Not going to say its out of the realm of possibility. Organic life is merely an organic machine with a computer for a brain, our thoughts and feelings made up of electronic impulses and chemical reactions, and the outside world, our input.

I was with you. Until I was just poking around a lot of PHD thesis stuff all behind LISP and actually play a little (mostly piggybacking off much smarter guys then me), there is some... interesting stuff...

And really, this concern is nothing new. Just another posturing for the possible "I told you so". Heck an un-piloted plane recently took off and landed on a US Air Craft carrier. There is software currently being tested for it to identify the good guys and the bad guys...and react to situations (like being shot at). SkyCraftNet!
