I will admit I don't watch as much baseball as some people. I did watch the highlights and recaps on MLBtv pretty much all season. I don't see how Goldshmidt could have won the gold glove over Rizzo. Goldschmidt's defensive highlights are just him laying his huge frame down. He is a big guy with a big catch radius.

They had about the same fielding % same assists. They were statistically very similar. Rizzo made a few plays this season that were fat better than anything I have seen in recent memory from a 1b. When he climbed the tarp and went into the crowd. The DP he made on bunts where he kept the ball in play and did not catch the popup.

Some of those were key plays in a playoff run. From my eye Rizzo had better highlight plays and made just as many routine plays.

I know GG awards are influenced by what a player does with the bat, but Rizzo made more plays out of zone and had better range, according to fangraphs (for whatever that is worth).

I will go back to this though. Just watching highlights of both the award would go to Rizzo. I just hope Rizzo wins one GG. Sometimes I think players just keep getting it over and over.

Rizzo did not get screwed at all.

There are very good defensive 1st basemen, and he was not tops.

Let's not be Cardinal fans here, trying to justify an individual award for everyone above average.

Holy ****, what? Gold my is one of the best players in baseball! Rizzo is not a slouch on D but godly dominates him with the glove and the bat. Godly is probably a top 5 player in baerball

While Rizzo should not have beat out Harper for MVP, let's be real here -- he wasn't just "above average."

We are not talking about bat, GG is about defense. Did you watch it on MLBtv. They had his highlights and they were pedestrian. Dive left dive right. Rizzo probably had the 2 or 3 of the top 5-10 plays at first this season. He by far made the best play at first. On MLB he was tied for 2nd in runs saved at first.

What you are saying with the bat is exactly why GG is a horse shit award. Rizzo made the best high end plays and was right there for standard plays. He made a few more errors, that is what hurt him. He made some plays that no other 1b would attempt. When was the last time you saw another f1b jump on the tarp and the fall into the stands to made a catch. FFS that is insane. If he misses that jump he busts busts is face wide open on the wall. There is a reason you don't see 1b make those plays, or even attempt them.

No, Rizzo did deserve GG. He was just as reliable. Tied for 2nd in defensive runs saved. Made the best highlight plays at the position. I don't think Goldshmidt would have had one play in the top 5 from the highlights that I saw.

GG is not MVP and not silver slugger.

What a ******* you are. He is far from above average on defense. MLBtv had him tied for 2nd in defensive runs saved. He had the best play at first all year and I think he had 3 or 4 of the top 10. Probably 2 of the top 5.

Once you go by highlights, thats all you get.

I guess you missed the part where I stated he was tied for 2nd in defensive runs saved, made the most plays our of zone and had a better range according to Fangraphs.

Those are not highlights. The point is if two players are roughly the same and one person makes better top end plays they should win. You can argue that they are not roughly the same. The only difference I can find is errors and Defensive runs saved. After that the Rizzo is better or even just about ever where. I probably don't put as much emphasis on DRS. I like range and out of zone more. Darwin Barney is exactly why I don't like either of those as much.

I did bring this up before.

Again, your retort is exactly what I expect from you. Nothing to add and ignore the actual points made.
