Last Year’s Record: 29-53
Key Losses: David Lee, Al Harrington, Chris Duhon
Key Additions: Amar'e Stoudemire, Anthony Randolph, Raymond Felton, Roger Mason
For the first time in a very long time, there is reason for hope among basketball fans in New York City. After enduring a nightmarish decade of losses and jokes at their expense, Knicks fan can rationally claim they are optimistic heading into training camp. While they may not be championship contenders just yet, the Knicks can be considered legitimate playoff hopefuls. And, in New York, that qualifies as a major step in the right direction.
For Knick fans, better days are finally ahead. Two years of posturing for cap space didn't get the Knicks LeBron James like they were hoping for, but they did improve their team vastly. The addition of Amar'e Stoudemire gives the Knicks their best big man since Patrick Ewing and they have a bunch of great fits for head coach Mike D'Antoni's system surrounding him. D'Antoni's up-tempo system should help Anthony Randolph come into his own. It should also serve as a nice change of pace for point guard Raymond Felton, who is coming from a very discipline-oriented system in Charlotte. For the first time in the post-Isiah Thomas era the playoffs are a realistic possibility in New York.
