Everyone else up in the rafters with the exception of Magnusson (and he shared a number with Pilote iirc), had to wait until they were inducted to the HHoF (not just the US HHoF -in Edina MN I think) - so JR can just cool his ... he'll get there (to the HHoF) I think; and even though Larmer deserves to be - not sure that he will (been awhile - not sure what the criteria for the voters are -since a guy like Glenn Anderson got in ...) -but if it was a fair world he'd be there too under the same criteria as all the others.

Yeah, I think that's the "rule" since $Bill.

Do I need to remind you that I am from Chicago?

Who is up in the rafters for the Hawks?

Pilote/Magnusson, Hall, Esposito (Tony), Mikita, Hull (Bobby), Savard.

You do know who Pierre Pilote was in relation to the Hawks, right? Q 3 time winner of the Norris Trophy and 3 time runner up. All but one of his 14 years in the league were with Chicago -almost all in the Original 6 period -elected to the HHoF in 1975. Not Mediocre and a real hockey player.

Glenn Hall -you want to go there? If so I believe he started like 502 consecutive games in goal (an NHL record- not threatened to be broken any time soon) - and didn't wear a mask while doing it. 10 seasons as a Hawk. Best goaltender ever to wear an Indian Head. Not Mediocre and a real hockey player.

Hull, Mikita, Savard, Esposito??? Well, I mean really - pick a mediocre one out of the bunch - Magnusson? Well, he died in an accident, and shared Pilote's number - I imagine it was mostly out of courtesy and commitment to the team for a gu who passed on before his time.

Who knows what the rule actually is- as Pilote was elected to the HHoF in the 70's -seems $Bill was tight with the retired numbers, as well as money...

mind you I think the Plager Brothers (or one of them) -is retired in St Louis -so really, it seems as if standards vary a bit around the league. I'm sure they were good players -but not really Bobby Hull level.

Mind you - I am not arguing against retireing Roenick, or Larmer's numbers -or even Belfour's.

You're right. I had forgotten the lapse of time on Pilote.

Lol at myself -well it does happen ... I got 15 years on you -so growing up there was particularly bad when all you had were rain delay highlights of the losing 1959 World Series, Walter Payton (and losing), the 1969 Cubs, Bobby Hill leaving for Winnepeg and -well ...

they made a big deal on the news when the Sting won for (not so nice possessive noun of your choice here) sake. . . it was pretty bleak.

Roenick was my favorite player growing up and easily one of my favorite players of all time.

With that being said...I don't think his number should be retired by the Blackhawks.
